abbeytheferret6, When you say "envelope" do you mean like this style? My girls love them and it allows them to sleep in the dark during the day if they want to. Also nice and warm and cozy in winter

Yes, they just sleep on top of it. I think mine is too short. Your pink one looks longer than purple one.Theirs is more like purple one(two envelopes). Do you have better success with the pink one, as far as them sleeping inside of it?
Flap on pink one is more full and loose---easy access.

I have the purple one in my cage - it's HUGE. (Much larger than the donut one pictured.) Here are a couple more pics for scale: In the second picture you can see a "store bought" one which is also a double pocket design. Much smaller, but they still love stuffing themselves into it. Maybe you just need to put them into the pocket a couple times so they can figure it out?

That happens with my rat cage(critter nation) pretty often and it has happened with one of the sections of the ferret nation a couple times. I just put it back in really tightly after it falls out. It's definitely not the weight on them because my rats are only 4 or 5 ounces each.
Also, I really like the idea of that pink hammock, with the one pocket. I might try that!

my 9lbs cat naps on the shelves all the time when i leave the cage open and they have never fallen. sounds like an issue with the shelf. you could try emailing the company and complaining and they may send you another shelf for free. i know midwest used to be great about that sort of thing

I had this problem; mostly, from fat bottom fuzzies leaping from one level to the other, instead of using the ramp. I purchased 3 extra 1/2 levels (I have a 3 section tower cage). Adding the extra level meant no one's fat butt was jumping and I no longer needed those leg breaking ramps.

Oops I forgot to add I also use zip ties at the ends of the shelves for extra security.

@mjarand, and chance you could snap a pic of where the zip ties are being used? I'm having a hard time visualizing.
I got an extra half shelf in the top half and find on the one that doesn't have a ramp they stick their front paw out the cage and use the horizontal bar to "hold onto" to help them down which kind of worries me. I'm trying to find some tubing/tunnel I can use as a go-between but my local hardware store didn't have any so I need to wait until I have time to make a trip elsewhere.

You can zip tie the front corners to to outside wires to keep the front from falling down fast. And or what I did for one of my shelved was to take a long 12/14 inch zip loop it over the shelf above and zip the lower shelf corner into the loop. This keeps the shelf from bouncing, but you must deal with a loop large enough any old or a young ferret could get his/her head stuck.. I used a thick plastic straw and custom shaped it to the rigging. (This has to be done before you close the zip

I zip tie my shelves on as mine purposely knock the shelves off onto each other. If you still need pics let me know.

I am having the same problem with the shelf in my FN cage. My shelves are a little wonky and don't sit level. Did you have any luck trying to bend the metal loops? They are so tough. One of the handle looking loops at the bottom is cocked out a little and when I shut the door it squeezes the shelf and the it seems to lift and become unstable. Merp. It makes me nervous.
