@boojum001. Thanks so much for the suggestion but I have hardwood floors. I can't even imagine having him with carpet. It would be a disaster. I'd be cleaning them all the time.

So how is little Otis doing these days? And you, as his caretaker?

Blue He has made some huge leaps forward the last couple of days. He actually walked a few steps I was so excited to see all the hard work finally starting to pay off. His back legs crawl constantly now every time he's moving. He's pulling his legs underneath him and trying to stand. He's pushing back on my hands with force and he has reached for the floor a few times. He moves them like crazy but seems to struggle putting weight on them which is weird. He's also flies down the stairs if I forget to close the door. I've had him outside too and he loves it. It snowed here yesterday and we took him on the porch to play in the snow. Great fun and Riot came with as well. It's been slow but steady progress. I'm really hopeful he will walk again at some point in the near future! Moms exhausted. Lol

abbeytheferret6. Thanks and it's been a lot of work but it's so worth it when I see improvements. He's just so darn cute! His summer coat is coming in and he's changing colors and going dark for the summer. He was more white when I got him. He's so happy.

Heather. Otis is always crawling now and he pulls his legs under him from time to time but he can not stand up. He tries but hasn't been able to do it. It looks like his lower end can't support his weight. (Not a move, met issue) Are there any back end exercises I could add to my regimen? I'd like to work on him regaining his strength and relearning how to walk. I'm kinda at a loss bc there isn't much out there. Would it help if I wrapped a piece of cloth under his belly and walk with him? Sort of lifting the end he can't? His legs move like crazy. I just can't figure out what to do to help him recover more. He's otherwise fantastic and my best eater. He plays with everyone and stashes food and toys. He doesn't seem to be bothered by the disability but if I can help him more I'd like to. I am hoping one day he will just do it but he hasn't yet. Any suggestions would be much appreciated

Thanks abbeytheferret6! that means a lot! Only ferret lovers get it and the others think we are nuts! If they only knew the rewards.

Perhaps he needs wheels? I know that doesn't strengthen his legs but I've run out of ideas, I'm sorry . Both Mayhem and Captain Jack were on their legs by now and using them more than not. Perhaps the damage, the clot didn't dissolve and is pressing on the spinal column. Or maybe the nerve suffered too much damage, I know they say that you can create new pathways but I don't know at what point the damage is too much or too far. Do you have a Chiro that might work with him. I'm not saying it will work, you've done a lot for him already but maybe getting him some wheels would allow him to move more freely. You can certainly try the belly band method and see if by lifting some of the weight off his back end that you can get him to bear weight. Good luck, please keep us posted ciao

Here's a suggestion that might help. Hold him with his legs hanging down and put your hand under his feet enough so he will push off from it. Over time increase resistance. It will change the angle and the muscles he has to use. I don't know if it will work. It didn't for Teddy.

Thanks so much for the suggestion. I have been doing this as well. He's made some more progress this week. It's slow going. This morning he pulled both legs underneath him and ate breakfast like a normal ferret. His back legs would usually be dragging behind him or off the the side. Small steps but I'm encouraged!
