Otis just came to my family as a rescue a couple of weeks ago. He changed to fully raw the same day and has been chowing down ever since. Hubby is racing home so we can get him to the vet. We only have one car at the moment. Here are the details I know:
last night he was completely normal. Ate CGH. Played and dooked around for hours. Poops and pees are normal. Ran up and down the stairs like normal.
went to get them out of the cage today and found him in the litter box unable to move his hind legs. He peed on himself so I gave a quick bath so I could see if there was anything external. There was nothing. He does not seem distressed which Is odd, I think. I should also mention that I lost a ferret to a spinal injury years ago and this is nothing like that injury.
his gums and feet are pink.
his BG was 87
he weighs 2lbs 9 oz.
hes btwn 2-3 yrs old
he gobbled down his pork today and was trying to stash but couldn't.
he can move his hind legs but he cannot stand and he cannot walk.
he can drag himself.
he is NOT pawing at his mouth, grinding his teeth, shaking, eyes look clear
I felt down his spine, his abdomen, moved both legs and hips and he showed no signs of tenderness
he is sleeping soundly next to me right now. I just have no idea what could have happened to him so suddenly overnight. All of other ferts are fine and they all ate the same meal yesterday.
my vet, whom I love, is not the most knowledgable about ferrets but is very receptive and she's all that I've got.
i am hoping that maybe someone could shed some light on my poor Otis. Have you heard of this happening to any other ferret? I've been scouring the net as well but it seems sudden hind leg weakness can be caused by a number of things.
this is so strange. We are so worried.
