Hi! So I've been trying to switch my ferrets to a raw meat diet but it's frustrating when every vet says that I shouldn't give them raw meat in supermarkets because of the risk of salmonella! What are your taughts on that?

Ferrets are designed to eat raw meat, their digestive tracks are so short and their stomach acid so strong that salmonella shouldn't be a problem for them. You do have to be careful with raw meat for them as you do for yourself (assuming that you cook and handle raw meat?). The majority of us on this forum feed raw and only a few have supportive vets. There can be an over growth of bacteria if you feed raw and dry/kibble/cooked together so we mostly follow the rule of a few hours between raw and other foods. Most ferrets are also pretty good at not eating meat once it has become spoilt.
The biggest problem with feeding raw is making sure their diet is balanced, there is plenty of information on the forum to help you figure of the correct diet though.
