This isn't quite creative rooms but more about those with free range ferrets. I know many of you have ferrets that aren't caged up at night and the majority seem to be in or have access to your bedrooms. I've read about nipped toes and bedtime cuddles ect and I wondered how well it worked. I can't say that I am planning on it, what with Korra wanting to bite skin and she bites hard but I just wondered and for future reference. My biggest concern would be them getting into out bed and one of us rolling over on them. Our dog used to sleep with us every night and he would always start of at my side and usually ended up on the opposite side of the bed because I just move that much. I probably wiggle more than the average person, I've always been terrible at sitting still, but even so, I imagine that it wouldn't take much to cause damage to or even suffocate one of our little guys. My dog was 30kg (that's 66lbs), sort of lab sized, but built solid (staffy cross).
What are your thoughts, opinions and experiences with having ferrets in the bed?

I've napped with my girls on the couch and loved it, it's seriously the greatest feeling in the world! I've always read about people waking up with their ferrets in bed and also wondered how they manage not to roll over on them.
My biggest concern personally would be the girls trying to wake us up for food/play. Whenever either of them wants to play and the other is asleep they scratch/dig at them until they wake up!
One time though our first baby, Truffles, did manage to escape her cage (it likely wasn't closed properly) and she climbed up into bed with us. My husband almost swatted her because he started having a dream that a mouse had gotten in and was licking his face! Thankfully I'm a very light sleeper so saw her right away - never was I more surprised in my life!

Thanks for your input. That is the sort of thing I am worried about. But I suppose your boyfriend wasn't expecting to find her in bed.

Yeah I don't know if he actually *would* have swatted her, only that when she crawled onto him and started licking his face, in his dream he thought it was a mouse. But yeah, definitely wasn't expecting that in a million years!
Our girls aren't allowed in our room at all though, because we're in a one bedroom apartment so we keep all of our music gear / other items we don't want a ferret near in there. I love sleeping with my ferret(s) on the couch though when I know ahead of time they're there. Ferrets are seriously little furnaces and generate a ton of heat. When it's cold I like to put them under a blanket at my feet and they warm my feet right up!

My Ponce was an only ferret. He would sometimes sleep with us. He didn't begin doing it until he was older. He always went to the foot of the bed, under the covers.
My five are free roam. They get on the bed during the night. They know there are FDR treats in the nightstand drawer. They also often want to invite us to play. We get little feet walking on our heads and Paul will wake up to Roamy grooming him.
Recently Wynstan has been sleeping with us, but not for very long. I wake up and can feel him under the covers. Like Ponce, he goes to the foot of the bed. He's suddenly found himself the odd man out. Roamy and Juliet sleep together and now Mika and Keller are sleeping together. He still sleeps with each group, but I think sometimes he finds himself alone and comes to us.

My cat likes to sleep next to/on me and I have accidentally kicked/shoved/elbowed/started to roll onto her so many times. I absolutely would not trust myself sleeping with a ferret. Especially since they tend to be such deep sleepers, idk that Remus could get out of the way in time if I started to roll onto him.

Mine r free roam until at night-----they have their own bedroom to roam around at night. When i want to check bad poops i let my senior---abbey--- stay in my room. She will crawl on the bed but will sleep in drawers. I tried to let Annabelle sleep in my room, but as soon as she crawled under the cover and found some skin, she bit the devil out of me. How do you say never again in all the languages of the world? Probably, when she is older i will try again.

I don't let mine stay out of the cage at night often due to my boy chewing fabric, but when I do, I always wake up with Caillou laying beside me or on top of me. I've woken up with him beside me numerous times, and I move A LOT in my sleep, never had an issue. I wouldn't really worry about it, they're slim and nimble creatures so they'd be able to wiggle out from under you probably (giggle)
I love waking up to ferret cuddles though.

The nipping and scratching can be very disruptive to your sleep pattern. I've had a number of ferrets who've slept with me...none at the moment (except Lady Morgain who isn't allowed in the bedroom at night....she bites) I've a very light sleeper and always know where my guys are when they're sleeping with us or me in particular. The unfortunate thing about sharing a bed with a ferret is if they're comfortable with sleeping with you, it means they're also comfortable enough to groom you...this can be painful and they expect you to tolerate it. It is after all a sign of love and deep affection. For ferrets, love hurts ciao

Ozzy would love to sleep with us. He'd always fall asleep in his hammock and wake up in the bed. If the bedroom door was closed, he would scratch endlessly until we opened. Now Gizmo can sleep anywhere. Even in the middle of the floor. Usually climbs on my husband, on his chest, or nearly on his face and sleeps Not the best to wake up with a ferret butt on your face in the middle of the night. Gabriel grooms me until i feel like my skin will peel off, until he falls asleep. Aramis bites the h*ll of of me if I push him around when I sleep. But he did fall asleep a few times with his head on my palm. Unfortunately he likes waking people up by biting noses, ears, eyelids or toes. Grr. Sometimes they end up sleeping with us, but I am really afraid of squishing one. When Aramis had surgery he was a 9 week old kit - and he had to sleep with us to make sure he's ok for a couple of days. We were waking up every 2, 3 hours to give him a little soupie and then back to bed. But is was scary since he was the size of a hamster. I prefer to just nap with them around, but deep sleep at night worries me.

Mine have free roam access in our room and we have some pillows/ blankets between the cage and bed that they use as steps, as well as pillows between the bed and bed frame since it has holes in the design.
They usually sleep in their closet bedding area or an open clothes drawer or a bedding corner with blankets for them.
The only time they 'sleep' with us is if we grab them and they are groggy and don't mind sleeping for 5mins-2hrs. They will get up to go to the bathroom and then sleep somewhere else.
I've only seen them go under the covers by our feet and sleep a handful of times, but it's usually to try and get us to play by biting or scratching at our legs.
In the mornings they will usually go up on the bed to check if we are awake or there and go back to sleep or scratch at the door for us to get them more food.

I think if they slept near my feet without biting then I would feel more comfortable, but they all like to bite feet, especially bare feet. Little weirdos! haha
Thank you all for your input, I'm also glad to know I'm not the only one worried about this and I don't feel so much like my ferrets or I are missing out. I had some lovely cuddles laid in bed yesterday with each of the boys, since they are free roam upstairs the comfiest place for we to watch them from is the bed, after lots of play of course.

Occasionally, one of the two boys (6 months old each) will come to cuddle for a little bit whenever I nap on the couch in the living room. Kyo (the older of the two by 9 days) will do this the most. Honestly, he is a big mommy's boy. My ferrets are not free roaming, but I let them out twice a day (2-3 hours each session). Yes, I get groomed by him and sometimes its painful. It's enough to wake me up, but I fall back into a half-sleep instantly. I'm a light sleeper, so I'm completely aware of all the sounds going on around me. This is how I can easily keep tabs on all of them even though I am napping. Also, my ferrets are isolated to the living room because I live in a one-bedroom apartment and my boyfriend is moderately allergic to them. I am also slightly allergic to them (which I recently discovered *), but only when I get play-nipped, nibbled, or if they bite (which has never happened). I will only swell up a tiny bit and had little itchy hives. It might be more painful for me to be groomed because I'm slightly allergic, but honestly I feel more connected with my ferrets. It's worth it in my opinion. I agree with Heather, "For Ferrets, love hurts."
