So Mocha just made a poop that was really weird (and gross) and not on the poop chart. I've posted pictures below, but the liquid in the picture (as far as I could tell) was all clear mucous and not pee. What worries me even more is that she did it on the shelf right below the hammock where she is fed. My girls are ALWAYS 100% litter-accurate, especially in the cage. Before I decided to post I tried to search on my own and read that mucousy poops can be a sign of blockage. She did eat a pretty good dinner and didn't puke or anything though. Should I be really worried and stay up all night watching her (or take her to an emergency vet) or just keep an eye out for any more strange poops? The second image is the same, just wanted to give you an idea of scale.   Also tagging my mentor @muchasbellas because she should obviously be kept in the loop but I don't want to post pictures this gross twice. |

Also I just cleaned the litter box and there was another poop in there that seemed to be more formed and poop-shaped, but still covered in mucous.

How old is she? What is she eating? Any previous health issues?
I wouldn't worry too much, keep an eye on her and watch her activity and food intake. Check the room (s) she has been in for anything chewed up, fabric, rubber, cords, carpet, anything. Doesn't matter if she's never chweed before, my boy wasn't a chewer and 3 blockage protocols later I decided every ferret is or can be a chewer. Are you sure it was her? How is your others poop?
Mine have strange poops sometimes, I don't worry about it unless it's accompanied with lack of appetite or lethargy and such or unless it happens repeatedly.

She's approximately 3-ish (based on the lady we rescued her from who was her 2nd or 3rd owner and never once took her to a vet the entire time she had her).
She's eating lots. Today is chicken (which she loves) so she pigged out. The commercial grind I feed has bone pieces in it but she just spits them out. Just in case it was gloopy from lack of bone I fed her 1/2 oz of grind with some eggshell powder mixed in shortly after writing the post.
As far as I can tell nothing is chewed or missing. The poop was definitely her because I heard the noise and turned around and saw her. The part that scared me was it was the 2nd to top shelf (I added an extra half shelf to my FN) that she pooped on which she's never done ever before.
I'll keep an eye on her for now because she doesn't *seem* like she's about to drop dead or anything and because the emergency vet doesn't know anything about ferrets.

Hmm that's a weird one. Let me know if she does it again. I'm going to ask some of the senior mentors what they think. Make sure she's drinking plenty of water as poops like that can dehydrate them very quickly.

I'd feed a meal with egg shell powder or bone meal powder. Something just might not have sat well. If she keeps having issues then it could be bacterial overload.

Funny you should mention that acodlin, because that is exactly what I did last night before I went to bed. I woke up to some harder eggshell poops, one mucousy poop, and a long, dark green slimy one. Mocha is eating fine, if anything she has a much bigger appetite than usual. Nova barely ate anything this morning which kind of worries me, but maybe she just isn't a big fan of venison. Either way they're both running around getting into trouble (i.e. being regular ferrets) so I'll just continue to keep an eye on them. |

In case anyone is curious, their poops are still completely different from each other despite being on the exact same diet. Mocha's are light brown and mucousy and Nova's are very dark green/brown (gross, I know.. sorry).
Despite that, they both seem to be acting fine so I'm just continuing to keep an eye on them.

Mines are never the same and they eat the same diet also. My girls may be light brown and slightly runny when my boys is dark brown/black and tarry. So don't worry about them being different. Just keep an eye on their food intake and activity as normal but I'm sure they're just fine  |

Mucousy can also mean a new food was introduced. That is one weird poop though.

I totally thought that the clear part was pee until I went to clean it up... Oh well. They still seem fine except Nova's spleen seems to be getting bigger, but that's unrelated  |

I know this is much later of a reply but it could help, but Gwin had poop like this a few months ago and I took him right to the vet. They did a stool sample test for all the bad things and it came out healthy/not dangerous. The vet just said he likely had some sort of stomach/intestinal virus that needed time to flush itself out, kind of like how we get the flu out of nowhere and it has to run its course. They gave me medication to help his stomach upset feelings and in a few days he was right as rain. They told me that as long as he was eating, drinking and going to the bathroom it was okay, but if any of those stopped to bring him back immediately.

Thanks @mark! This was near the beginning of their switch so I was really freaking out, but it took care of itself. A month or so about they also had a bug for about 5 days (consisted of explosive diarrhea that splattered all over the wall and outside of the cage) and I made it through that too! Now that they're fully switched and munch away on all sorts of meats I'm a lot less stressed  |
