I'm sure that with all that bedding and the heat pads, plus a thick winter coat they will be snugly warm!
We don't have the heating on in the ferret room, and with Bolin's thick winter coat he's happy to sleep out in the open on a blanket. I'm cold in their room with a thin jumper on, but they seem perfectly happy.
I was thinking about this lighting cycle again, so 8 hours is optimum? But surely they need their seasons too? Or is it best to keep then at 8 hours of light all year round?
Mine are currently inside but near the window, I don't close the curtains in their room so they have a natural sunrise and sunset. I try not to go in too much once it's dark but obviously it's dark really early so I try to make bedtime litter clean, play and food as quick as possible.
Is it more harmful if they lights are on and off therefore disturbing their day/night cycle or is that the same sort of thing as them going into their nest box and coming back out?
Or is it just total hours? And if they spend most of their time asleep in their darkened nest box or covered cage won't that effect the number of 'daylight' hours they have.
Mako loves his 'hive' nest and blocks the enterance with a blanket, so it's pretty much black in there. While Bolin is sleeping on the floor of the cage laid on top of a blanket. They can be in these positions for a few hours without waking, so that could be 3 hours difference between the time in light between these two ferrets??? Am I just over thinking it?
How many hours should I let the light in in the winter and how many for summer? Then I assume just a gradual change between the two following the natural pattern.
I'm thinking in the summer if they days are too long I could just close the curtains at what ever time, then open them again before I go to bed, so they can still have their natural sunrise.
