I already have a double level fn cage but I am looking to pick up another one and have them side by side making one long cage. Is there a difference in height or width? I am hoping to just take the side panels off and zip tie them together. I have no idea which one that I have but mine did not come with ramp covers.
Is there a quick way to tell why is which?

My 182 has a sticker on the top right of the cage. I'm guessing yours doesn't or you wouldn't need to ask I've never owned a 142 but I believe the pieces are held together with screws/bolts where as with the 182 all the pieces just slide into place. The shelves are also different on the older 142's. I *think* the 142 has a piece of that slides into the wires whereas the 182's (and I think newer 142's) have shelves that kind of sit on top. Again, I've never seen/owned a 142.
I guess once you find out which one you have you can google the dimensions to see if there's a difference! Actually, better yet, someone on this forum will probably already know.

Ya know I put it together but it was so long ago I can't remember if I bolted them. Mine does have a sticker but I think they all do, no? My shelves have a plastic sheet that is held down by slipping it under at the corners. Hmmm.. Sounds like the 142, I think. Ughh I'll have to take a better look at its construction tomorrow. I just want to make sure they match in width and height so I can just zip tie them. I don't want to buy a cage and then not have it fit.

Yeah that would definitely be bad. Does your sticker say 142 on it? As you can see in my picture it says "Model 182" right on it.
Not only do you need to make sure the width is the same, but also the HEIGHT. Especially how far up from the floor the cage part starts or you'll need to raise one up onto a slight platform or something.

So after doing some more digging, I found some images on google of the 142 and 182 so you can see where there is/isn't bolts (I circled in yellow for greater clarity). Note: I do not own these photos, I took them off google images. 182: (pieces slide together) 142: (pieces bolt together)

There is a slight height difference between the 142 and 182. I've heard a couple of people say this doesn't make any difference and can be easily worked around. I chose that the gap between the two types of cages was large enough to get a very small jill to get stuck trying to get out and decided against attaching these two cages. ciao

I just put a 182 together. I definitely prefer the 142. If I buy another FN I'll look for another 142.

Thanks....I definitely have a 142. I never noticed the bolts on the outside or the dimensions on the sticker. So I'll look for another 142 it's so sturdy.

I feel like I should be zip tying the 182 together. 142 are definitely sturdier.

We have an older cage It doesn't have bolts on it but the newer 182 we purchased last year is slightly off when we connected them there was a gap but we use a comforter and other thick blankets so no fuzzies get a leg caught. It does work quite well its like a ferret mansion.
