It sounds to me like they (the R kids) are a lot more 'switched' than you think! haha I know mine will get tired of something if I feed it too many times in a row. Maybe they are just tired of the soup or the chicken. Maybe try feeding them what you are feeding the babies for a few days. Rebel is the one I would worry about, but if you do it on a day you are off and can be home to monitor them then it should be fine. Those vidoes are so cute! I've looked at your posts a few times on my phone but couldn't get the videos to play. This is the first time I was able to get on a computer and watch!

Well I'm glad you said to start them on the kits menu because that is what I have been doing. I decided to just go for it and they have been eating so far. They had bone in duck last night, mostly rib cage, a few pieces of wing in there. This morning they had pork. It has been about 5 meals now that they have eaten bone in or chunks. One of the things I am doing differently is, while I was prepping food, I saved all the meat juices and froze the juice into ice cubes. I thaw one ice cube per meal, which right now is three times a day for my oldies, and just mix the meat in. I think this is helping Riot eat the chunks better because he has an appetizer so to speak. Rebel went into the kits feeding den this morning and just started eating with them. She actually bit me first, gently, but that is her way of saying, I'm hungry and you haven't brought me my food fast enough. Apparently I should serve her before I brush my teeth. Hopefully they stay on this trend and I won't have to make another batch of soup, unless they become sick. Rebel and Riot both have a vet appointment today for their lupron shot. Side note: If that DES implant doesn't come in by next month I might go raid Vibrac. We are also looking more closely at Rebel so see if she needs Carafate added. I think part of the reason she is enjoying chunks and bone is that she likes to chew. She can't have any lose fleece around or she eats it. So I'm wondering if she has ulcers. I think either way I would like to get her on some carafate, it's been three months she has been on the Pred and I'm sure her tummy would like some help. She also now has most of her summer coat. I didn't expect that to happen so fast! She is sleeker and less poofy except on her legs which are still shedding. They have been splitting one egg a week and I haven't noticed any hacking so, so far so good. The real test will be tonight. They are going to try mouse! I'm going to thaw some CGH in case neither wants anything to do with it but we will see.

Vet appointment was slightly disappointing. We did blood work on Rebel because the vet thinks she might have lymphoma. I finally got a prescription of Carafate so we start that tonight. However, both of them ate well when we got home. The other part that bothered me was they gave Rebel nutrical without my permission. That sugar in a tube crap, they gave to my inuslinomic ferret! Who does that?!? I was so irritated but the damage had already been done. They walked in the room with her licking the vets finger.

AHHH that would make me mad too! Was it to help handle them? If that is why then let the OWNERS handle them. Yikes!
When will the blood work be back for Rebel? Why did they suspect it?
SOOO glad that they seem to be eating EVERYTHING haha! Hope the CGH goes well. Mine always love it, not so much duck.

Apparently they used it to help replenish some of the blood she lost and keep her blood sugar up. I'm just going to bring my own "treats" next time. She suspected it because of her weight loss. She lost 100 grams from Jan 20th till now, which I didn't think was too bad but she wanted to be sure and honestly I would rather have the peace of mind too. It should be ready by tomorrow.
Also, I agree about the owners handling them. When they gave Riot his shot, I felt like the technician was to scared to scruff him properly. I would have felt better about handling him. I'm not sure I want to switch vets since I do like three of the five vets that work there. I'll just try to schedule them with the ones I do like if I can.

CGH went well last night. They had their half organ/half beef tongue meal today which went great. SO yay there.
Also looks like the kits are onto about 5 ozs a meal down from 8 ozs a meal. Arbor is definitely starting to thin out instead of having that kit belly and face. Tundra still looks like a baby, a giant baby but still.
I'm going to redo meal plans this week so that it shows the new ounces for the kits and you can see the menu I will use for Rebel and Riot, it will mimic the kits as much as possible, just nicking the whole prey. I haven't given them beef yet. I'll post those later tonight or tomorrow when I take weights.

Beef was not well liked... Since they are getting Rabbit, is it necessary for them to have another "dark" meat? I can try goat but I would have to buy more, I can also try lamb too if they really need it. It's the first meat they have put up a serious fight with so I let it go. I know they accept a soupie of it, should I use this and slivers of beef to get them to eat it? I have plenty of beef to give this a try if you think we should. It would put them off the menu for a little bit but I'm not too worried about that.
I also got the call back from the Vet. No diagnosed lymphoma so we dodge that one there. We are waiting on another call to see if want to up her pred dose. I think .2ml would benefit her.

I am happy to hear that Rebel's Dx is good.
Beef is part of the red meat that we like them to have. You can also do bison, venison, goat, and lamb. It is fine to feed heart or liver from these animals.

Things have been going so well! Riot and Rebel are eating bone in piece, muscle meat chunks and organs just fine. Rebel has been actively seeking out food. Her BG is now in the 60's and 70's after a few hours which is awesome. I think the bigger pieces are keeping her full longer and keeping her stable longer! Poos are great on Carafate, she has one green poo after we started. They are getting lighter, she has always had darker poos and now her poos are much lighter in color and more formed. They can crunch the bone of a chicken wing like champs!! Teeth are already looking better. Riot only eats on one side of his mouth. Vet checked it out and said there is nothing wrong that he just prefers one side. I am going to brush that side of his mouth once a week. I am going to buy some ground beef since they will eat the beef ground but not chunks and work them up that way. They got beef tongue today and ate that up, go firgure. I fed them a little bit smaller chunks than normal but they ate it just fine this morning. Maybe they didn't like the cute of beef I got. They also nommed on some small pieces of guinea pig, so I'm going to make some more with less fur on it and work them up to whole prey eventually. Nobody really like mice unless they are live. Weirdos.
Tundra and Arbor are also doing well. My little porkers went down a few ounces for meal times and now they are back up a few ounces. We are having a cold spell so maybe that's why they want to eat a little more.
I like doing goat but it's pretty expensive here. I did find a co-op in the springs that I am trying to get in contact with, the prices are incredibly but you have to buy like 30lbs at once. How long can meat stay in the chest freezer for without going horribly bad?
I just wanted to say a big thank you too. I felt so defeated for a while there and I felt like I had been doing this forever and you gave me every push I needed to get my guys going. I get so excited every meal time to watch my guys chow down on real food! (dance)

Final Exam:
1. List 2 good sources of taurine. 2. How can you tell if your ferret is getting too much or too little bone? 3. What counts as a "different protein source" and how many different proteins should a ferret have in their diet? 4. List 3 organs aside from liver. 5. How often on average does a ferret need to eat? 6. Are leaner meats better for your ferret or fattier meats? 7. How long does each type of meat generally stay good: raw soup, ground meat, med-large chunks, bone-in meats, whole prey?
GOOD Luck!

1. List 2 good sources of taurine.
Heart and beef tongue
2. How can you tell if your ferret is getting too much or too little bone?
Poos, poos that are too firm are getting to much bone, poos that are too runny are getting not enough bone
3. What counts as a "different protein source" and how many different proteins should a ferret have in their diet?
A ferret should have a minimum three different proteins in their diet, a different protein is a different animal, turkeys and chickens are two different protein, a baby chick, a young hen and a chicken are the same proteins.
4. List 3 organs aside from liver.
Kidneys, Pancreas and testicles.
5. How often on average does a ferret need to eat?
I feed twice a day (for my healthies) but a ferret snacks every 4-6 hours and should always have food available.
6. Are leaner meats better for your ferret or fattier meats?
Fattier meats, fat = energy
7. How long does each type of meat generally stay good: raw soup, ground meat, med-large chunks, bone-in meats, whole prey?
Raw soup = 4 - 6 hours ground meat = 8 - 12 hours Med large chunks = 12 - 24 hours bone in meats = 12 - 24 hours Whole prey = 24- 48 hours depending on size
