I'm sorry, I forgot that Franklin and Delilah are no longer with you.
Yogi is such a good boy. That's great that he eats so well. The older ones can be more stubborn. My youngest Mika is my stubborn one and she ate raw from the beginning. She's my finicky princess.
When you go shopping, go for chicken thigh instead of breast. Fat equals energy for ferrets. Chicken thighs are fattier and less expensive (hooray!)
It sounds like Penelope and Nestle have had a breakthrough and can tolerate each other. They may never be best friends, but who knows. You'll probably find them sleeping together, one day soon.

I used to think Hershey was my pickiest, but he's not with raw. Bentley definitely seems to be most picky.
That's actually what I plan to get later today.
Nestle seems so happy to be out of the cage all of the time now
It seems like some of them have watery green poops. Is that bad? I'm not sure who it is but it seems like more than one of them. I put around a teaspoon of bone meal in that 2 pounds of soup I made

Actually, I know who at least one of them is. Penny just pooped and it was really mucousy and orange. I took pictures of both weird poops that I saw Sorry thats a little weird, but I'm assuming you're used to the poop thing

lol, we're all a little poop obsessed here. You're going to see some funky poops during the switch. One or two isn't anything to worry about, but if they continue, than we start looking into what is causing them. Have you ever seen the poop chart? Mucousy usually just means a new food. Green can be stress or ECE which is usually transmitted when a new pet store baby comes home. holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/2469I'm glad that Nestle is getting out more. I know everyone can't do free roam, but I really feel so guilty when I have to put someone in a cage. That only happens when someone is new and needs protection from Roamy. They know that I'm feeling guilty and play it for all it's worth. I wonder if Bentley is picky because he doesn't have much of an appetite or is he just your stubborn one.

That's what I thought, but just wanted to be sure. I have seen the chart, but I'm bad at interpreting that stuff so I'm never sure.
I feel bad when I put them in the cage too. That's why they're out all the time. I'll feel better at least now that they'll have the whole 3 level ferret nation if I do have to put them in it. I'm so worried that I'll do something that will make Nestle and Penny notice each other and fight, but they were eating right next to eachother earlier so they definitely have noticed eachother.
That's what I've wondered too, but he's always been more picky than the others. Both him and Hershey were the difficult ones when I switched them from marshalls to better kibble. They both were really difficult with treats too, but now I'm not too worried about that.

I'd say your problems with Penny and Nestle are now over. Penny may still try to assert her dominance but at this point, she's not likely to actually hurt Nestle. You're lucky, we're still living with a stupid piece of plywood and a gate separating the upstairs from the downstairs. I'm so tired of that. (headwall)
My Ponce was super picky and had a terrible appetite. Then when he got sick, it was so hard to get food into him. I'd love to have known about the soup recipe back then. I do one organ soup meal a week, just to keep them use to the soup texture. That way if someone does get sick, I can easily nourish them.
Do you still offer treats? I think everyone who has a pet loves to give treats. It's so difficult with ferrets, but there are treat options. I buy freeze dried raw hearts or FDR chicken or fish and drop those into water and let them go fishing. We have a thread on making your own homemade jerky, I haven't tried it yet though.

I really have gotten lucky with how it happened. I was so close to giving up. It had been 6 months with absolutely no progress at all.
I wish I had known about it when my Frankie got sick too. I just fed him chicken baby food mixed with science diet A/D wet food and uncle Jims duk soup every four hours for months, until he got to two pounds again. I went through at least 100 jars of baby food. I wouldve saved so much money and he would've been so much healthier if I knew about the raw soup recipe.
I have tried freeze dried treats, but they don't really like any of the ones I've tried yet. I got some freeze dried turkey and the little shrimp, but only some like the shrimp and none like the turkey. I have like 8 bags of those n-bones that I got for free, but I know those aren't good. I just hate throwing stuff like that away. It feels like such a waste. I plan on making the jerky sometime, but I just have to find a time when I can use the oven for that long. My mother wants me to do it sometime for the dogs anyway.
I should start weighing what they eat again. Theyve all been better about eating from the bowl, so I've just been letting them eat as much as they want

I held both Nestle and Penny at the same time for the first time without Penny biting her. I love it so much I didn't get any more chicken today. I went to the store but only had enough money for my own food. I'll get some tomorrow. I found some slivers in the freezer anyway, which are thawing now

That's so great about Nestle and Penny. We didn't have such a great morning. Both Roamy and Juliet went after Keller. I thought we were making better progress. I'm glad that you are though. Yeah, the N Bones were a favorite of mine. Then I learned that they aren't approved. Now they have changed the formula and it's really not good. Roamy still comes to me and looks hopefully in my nightstand drawer, just in case. You can always donate them to a shelter for dogs. After Ponce passed away, I had a large bag of kibble and some treats. (I didn't know any better than). So, I started putting out a bowl of kibble at night. Before long, we had raccoons, possums, cats, chipmunks, groundhogs and who knows what else at our front door. When they started scratching at the front door, Paul made me stop feeding them. It was so much fun though, to look out and see all these little creatures. We were new to Tennessee and I wasn't used to them. Okay, time for a little lesson on Organs. If you would please read this info and tomorrow, I will ask you a question about it. (giggle) holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/13628/defines-nutritional-organ-meat

I think eventually yours will accept Keller. Ferrets can be such difficult little creatures I'll see if some of my dogs will eat them. I've tried them with my cats but even they wouldn't. I suppose if none of them eat them, my rats probably will. Rats eat everything I'll think I've read it before, but I'll read it again to refresh myself I may have the flu... My dad has it and I've been feeling sick today. I've never had it before. I'm hoping it's just a cold. Is it still okay for me to feed them? Neither of my parents will touch the soup to give it to them. I'll reinstate my 'sanitize before entering' rule again. I keep a bottle of hand sanitizer on the door of the ferret room because some people have to walk through there to get to other parts of the house

I hope it's not the flu. Will you be going to the Doctors? It seems like everyone is getting sick this winter.
Unfortunately, if it's the flu then you can give it to the ferrets.
Do you have a mask and some gloves? If you still have to prepare their meals, then you'll want to be extra careful. Try to avoid hugs and kisses...awww, that's so sad. You know the drill, wipe everything down and be especially careful around Bentley. Is there someone to help you with them?

I might be going to the doctors, but I'm not sure yet. For now I'm just waiting. I'm always getting colds, so it definitely could just be that. Yeah, so many people are getting it this year. I've even heard of some schools closing for a few days because they have so many kids with it.
I do have gloves, but not a mask. I'll be super careful and limit my interaction with them. My mom can help with things like Bentley's medicine, but she refuses to touch the meat.

I just realized that the tea I drink when I'm sick has slippery elm bark in it

How funny, your tea has slippery elm bark in it. What kind is it?
If you don't have a mask, just use a scarf or even a towel. Just something to cover your nose and mouth.
Gfountain has been battling a sickness for four weeks now. Julesalot and her family has been sick, Sherry was sick, etc...it doesn't seem to matter what part of the world that you're in. I hope you'll be okay.
How are the little ones? Are they getting use to the soup and slivers?

It's called throat coat. It's supposed to help with sore throats. When I'm sick, I just drink tea all day. It helps a lot. That tea also has licorice in it though, which makes it hard for me to drink. I hate the taste of licorice.
I've been putting my shirt over my face and trying to keep my face away from them. I got a humidifier today so hopefully that'll at least make me able to sleep better.
I actually had to have my mom give them kibble this morning. I was out of soup and didn't have any chicken left. But I got chicken thigh a few hours ago so they have soup again. I had no soup left last night too, so I just gave them some slivers with crushed kibble mixed in and someone ate it. They're all eating soup and some slivers from a bowl. I usually have to show them the spoon and then put it into the bowl, but they eat it fine after that.
