Silly question- but how does that whitish seedy stuff smell? If it is really foul that would be a bacterial infection you are dealing with as well. For the possible blockage you can also puree some lettuce if necessary and use that in place of pumpkin. Not as good as it lacks the total bulk, but better than just vaseline

It did smell bad, I just don't know how terrible would it be to point towards bacterial. But yeah, the smell was very bad.
As a background, a few months ago we ended up in the emergency with him because he had severe stomach pain and he wouldn't eat, just run, hide and sleep... they did an xray, but he had too much gas, and nothing could be shown on the xray. They said they think it isn't a blockage, because of all the gas- and gave us treatment - antiacid, antibiotic and some stomach coating. after about a week, he got better, so we didn't worry. But the vet we visited then wasn't a ferret specialist then. I am wondering if whatever was there could have come back, or wasn't really cured..
On the other hand, nothing like rubber came out but the other two seem to be pooping and eating normally, so ... either Gabe chewed it really well and it came out without me noticing, or Aramis still has it inside him, because what came out looked really bad...

Might be an idea to get some amoxi for him. Give for a minimum of 14 days.

Thanks Sherry, I'll ask the vet, because I can't get it without prescription. After all these events since yesterday, I think the first thing is a trip to the vet... again.

Maisie's poop smelled terrible before she went in for blockage surgery. I'm so sorry you're going through this, and of course it had to happen at exactly the worse time When does the vet reopen -- Friday Jan 2nd? Or Sat 3rd? There must be an emergency vet on call somewhere. Perhaps call all the local vets and see if they have an answering machine with an emergency number on it? Farms would probably know who to call. At least Aramis is still acting normally. Maisie was really lethargic and dehydrated when she started producing the awful poops, so hopefully you still have some time and your treatment is helping. I know how much this sucks -- I'm thinking of you, and keep us posted!

I will admit(and may NOT be the case with yours) but every time mine have had those types of stools, or yellow foamy stools, it was a bacterial overgrowth. The white seedy ones seem to take much longer to get under control. Do you raw feed? If so, something I found helped was at the same time give ONLY a cooked soup, along with a 1/2 tsp plain full fat balkan yogurt daily.

The ferret - vet is back only on the 7th... The hospital is open though, starting with tomorrow. There are proper 24h emergency services available only from saturday. on friday I can only go to the teaching hospital, but they take only dogs, cats and horses (last time i ended up there with baby Aramis with a blockage they sent me home saying he'll be ok).
I do feed them raw - I'll try the soup with yoghurt for him (since they are lactose intolerant, won't the yoghurt cause explosive diahreea or so? just to know what to expect, and if I should give it to him before sleepy time or not)

Didn't for mine. Yogurt is minimal lactose.

UUf, I tried, and I tried to feed him the soup, and he just wouldn't take it. even with the syringe....He would spit it all over the place. He put up a fight even when giving him salmon oil. I'll try again with his favourite chicken-organ mush, at least to get something in him...

tried, didn't want to eat anything now. Not him nor Gabe. They ate aroung 8-9 pm , and now it's 4am, they woke up about 2h ago. they should. Normally they'd eat their last meal around 2am before we go to bed....

on friday I can only go to the teaching hospital, but they take only dogs, cats and horses (last time i ended up there with baby Aramis with a blockage they sent me home saying he'll be ok). The more experienced ferrents will have to weigh in on this, but perhaps you could ask for a barium xray? They do that for cats, so hopefully they could do it for ferrets. I'm not sure if the barium xray gives that much more information than a regular xray (which is what you got last time, right?). And if he's dehydrated, they should at least be able to give him sub-q fluids? (I can't believe we were just talking about this last week!!) Hang in there, we're thinking of you.

The barium gives a ton more information than a regular xray....so that would be my choice of xrays. Not all vets will do barium on a ferret but they can administer a sub q or at least instruct you how. I don't like that neither ferret is eating ciao

indeed, when they did the xray in october, they didn't use barium. I'll suggest that..now if anything goes wrong, I have where to go, as the hospitals are now open (except for the best one, of course!). Either this is a floating blockage or it passed through after so much vaseline, because they have pooped at night, and ate this morning (and ate the dry duck i left them in the cage overnight). I know Gabe had very loose stools, but I imagine that so much vaseline had to do something. I'll have them off any vaseline or lax today and feed solid food and see if anything progresses in any way, and get Aramis an appointment to our vet asap for a stomach checkup. He prob needs some treatment, and I couldn't get him to eat the soup/yogurt mix. He only wants to eat raw mix. Seems like today some ferret savyy vets in our range are now available.
Thank you all so much for your time and support, it helped me so much! I'll keep posting if anything changes, and also how the checkup goes

Since the last time I posted - Aramis has been eating normally but what's coming out, alternated normal poop, very thin black, black soft small, and since yesterday, green diahreea, and back to normal soft poo now. Yesterday we did a blockage protocol with squash and vaseline. Can squash make his stool green? Because I was expecting orange...As the entire jar of winter squash was orange. his appointment is on wednesday. He is fine now, had a normal stool - so I don't know if he actually has something or I am just being paranoid - and I'll go there again to tell me he's fine and I need mental care (though I do choose that over anything being wrong with him!) I forgot to mention - Gabe is fine, eating normally, we'll have a bg test for him next week prob (no symptoms, just that for about 2.5 y he was fed low quality kibble) and he's quite skinny. Maybe I'll put another post with a hanging pic of him
