you can put few drops of salmon oil on their belly and weight them, they should be staying still
It worked but the scale doesn't seem to register them The old one we had that weighed foods by the ounce is broken. May have to borrow someones lol. Brooklyn is slightly skinnier but still energetic. Not sure if her seasons are reversed now or what, but she seems to still not be going into her winter coat. Harry is full on winter coat now.
do you see changes on their teeth already? that bones should clean them in no time
Not yet. Their breath is smelling better with the more regular brushings (With our fingers, sometimes light nails used to help get any funk off if there is any)
ok, i want you to find some organs so we can finally follow frankenprey menu :boing:
So I have: Duck liver, chicken liver, goat pancreas, pork brain for organs.
organ must be 10% of their total diet (or 1.5 meals on a 2-meal per day schedule). This is preferably half (5%) liver and half (5%) other organs, but if you don't have access to other organs you can give 10% liver, BUT you have to include other organs however and whenever you can.and now, another little quizz
They are on a 4 meal per day schedule right now, sometimes 5 They typically get fed right now at 12PM , 5PM, 9:30PM, and 12AM. Sometimes earlier in the mornings or 5 meals on the weekends. They are in sleepy winter mode where they sleep in a bit more due to the room being colder.
1. name the non-liver organs sources
Pancreas , spleen, kidney, brain, tongue(May be a muscle meat too),eyes, testes are the main ones I believe. Skin isn't really counted.
2. is it good to offer meals in a variety of forms, textures, and temperatures?
Yes- as they will not get bored with the food as much. Especially whole prey or half chopped whole prey- it being different parts is likely a different taste and keeps up the variety. Temperature-wise, room temperature is preferred or slightly warmer if about to feed, but not microwaving as that would make the bones soft and rubbery and then you have a possible blockage issue.
3. what is the importance of bones in their menu?
To provide calcium, bone marrow, and to firm stools. I'm sure there are other benefits to it as well, possibly to help them absorb everything better in their digestive tracts.
4. is it good idea to mix muscle meat, bone in and organs all in one meal?
I would say if possible, yes. The only risk would be if each part was from a different animal, and that could cause confusion on potential allergies and take longer to figure out. The other issue could be that if you fed a portion of organ everyday, poops could always be diarrhea like, which I would think would not be the best for them. Then again, they would likely eat everything at once in the wild.
5. how many eggs should be given per ferret per week?
Quail eggs - 1-3
Chicken eggs - 1-2
You want to give them the whole egg if possible.
