I have no idea where Mia came from. All I know is Bella because of her tatoo and I know that they have been together ever since Mia has been a baby. Bella ate 5.9oz today!!

Woohoo, go Bella! One of the side effects of pred is an increased appetite, so that should help her put weight on.

I'm sure excited about that! Not sure if you saw her pics, but I could see her ribs. My vet is also suspecting Adrenal But she wants to get her BG stable before starting the monthly injections.

Hello everyone! Well it's been one week since Bella was put on pred and I just checked her BG....
I was hoping to see a higher number but it came up at 39.6mg/dl from 21.6mg/dl and her weight is back up to 1.7lbs from 1.4lbs on January 1st. She is also more alert and gets out of her cage more often and has more energy. She is eating about 4 to 5 oz per day.
I will keep checking her BG and weight weekly.

That's about 20 points higher isn't it? That's good that it has increased, it is still considered low, but my Neichei lived 1 yr 6 mo with her BG never, ever going above 40. They adjust to a low BG, so watch how she acts, if she is more energetic, eating good, acting good, I wouldn't be too concerned if her BG doesn't get very high. With Insulinomics their BG may never be within normal ranges, but they may act totally fine. Her weight is getting better which is great, maybe we can get her to 2.0 lbs

Well today was weigh day and BG testing day. I decided to check Mia's BG as well just to make sure she is good. Rachel I am tagging you so you could see where we are at racheldBella has gained weight again this week! She is now at 1.9 lbs so that's 2 ounces in 6 days. However her BG wasn't as good as last week, it's at 34.2 from 39.6 last week. Mia is doing great...she is at 1.12 lbs, almost at that 2lb mark! Her BG is at 86.4, so I'm quite happy with that. Mia is like a 2 year old ADHD lol Bella is doing better as far as energy goes and she is still eating approximately 5oz/day. I also just came across the importance of darkness for ferrets. I was always keeping lights on in my office in the evening thinking they needed to see what they were doing! So when I thought I was doing good by them, I was actually causing them harm. So I completely revamped their cage today, I've added a brown blanket to the top of the cage that I could drape down the front if I feel they need more darkness. Here's a pic...they do have hammocks, they were being washed when I took the pic. You will notice that Mia is at the right checking out the travel carrier. She is soooo nozy! lol Here's a pic of the girls today, so adorable the way they were cuddling...they are both inside a hammock and only half of their bodies are hanging out. lol

Yes, lighting and observing seasonal lighting changes are extremely important in your ferrets' lives. This is one of the components of adrenal ciao

Seems we're all up to our ferts BG's lately. I checked Caillou's yesterday, it was 76, 4 points up from a couple weeks ago, my meter isn't calibrated so who knows how off it is (could be 20 points higher could be 20 points lower), but at least it's up and not down. We don't suspect Insulinoma, but it's nice when their BG is higher regardless.

That's great news for Caillou!!
My BG tester is not calibrated either, I'll have to get that done on my next vet visit.

Tagging my Mentor racheldWell Bella's BG is not getting better...I took it today before her first feeding of the morning and it was 1.7 (30.6) and I took it again 2 hours after her feeding and it was 2.4 (43.2) I have spent the day feeding her every 3 hours. I also decided to start giving her the pred 3 times/day instead of 2. Instead of 0.3 twice/day I'm giving her 0.2 every 8 hours. I feel that she is going to need her pred increased. I'm going to try 3 times/day and see if that makes a difference. What is the max does of pred that some of you had your babies on? I will not increase without vet supervision of course, as it goes by weight.
