Yes don't give her any more for 12 hours, try not to go more than an hour or so before or after, I find mines BG stays more stable this way.
Any tester should be fine but I have a feeling your father in laws requires more blood than others, the True2Go requires a tiny drop of blood, very small and gets results quickly, that's the one I've been using for a couple months now.
Nothing extra, this is very important, the ONLY time you give karo or honey or something like that is *ONLY* when your ferret is having a seizure, when it is spaced out, unresponsive, or acting very drunken and disoriented. Don't give it when it's just kinda tired or it's BG is lower, for this you call your Vet and increase the medicine dose and feed more often. The only thing you can do (other than having her on meds) is feed her every 2-3 hours, even if it's just a small amount.
It can take up to 7-10 days before the Pred can kick in or before it starts to stabilize her.
