Hello all my ferret loving friends! I found this forum a couple days ago browsing pinterest. I've been doing a lot of ferret research lately, so I figured joining this forum would be good for me.
Let me start off by saying that I am 20 years old, as of August. I have loved ferrets for pretty much all of my life. My mother gave me her ferret book when I was just a few years old. I read it so much. I, Unfortunately, cannot currently afford a ferret seeing as I am living with my mother and grandmother. I go to school full time - community college! I graduated in 2012. My original plan was to get an associates degree in Veterinary Technology, but have since reconsidered. Currently I'm general studies but very soon I will be adding a second major in Early Childhood Development. My dream is to run a canine rescue. I used to volunteer at my local animal shelter all the time but I got busy with college work. Though, I love dogs, I have always wanted a ferret. Before I continue here are some pictures of me:
This one is a little old, I just wanted to show off my hair at the time...Age-15
Age-16
Age -19 Last October, I believe.
Me and my boyfriend of 1 year (November 11) Skye, This was from the 4th of July in DC
Now, On to my animals, currently all dogs.
First I want to tell you a little story about a Rottweiler(3/4) Doberman (1/4) named Rocky. He came into the Animal shelter near my house when I had just lost my childhood dog, Sunny, a few years before. He was just 6 weeks old then! His mom and all his siblings were in the shelter with him. He was born on August 7, 2011. I adopted him within a few days of him turning 8 weeks old.
This is Rocky and my cousin's dog max chillin' on our back porch summer of 2013. Look at those smiles!
Same day, this is my favorite picture of him ever.
This was the last picture I got to take of him - Halloween 2013.
Which brings me to my tragedy- at 3 years, 3 months, and 3 days old, Rocky died early that sunday morning. I had had him at the vet the night before because he wasn't eating or drinking anything. The e-vet took two x-rays (was convinced he'd swallowed something, even though everyone was positive that he hadn't.) and gave him two shots - one was anti nausea (he'd been throwing up) and the other as under the skin fluids. The vet told me to just make sure he was drinking water and to take him to my regular vet on Monday. I fell asleep around 3AM and when I woke up at 7 he was just laying on the floor "asleep". I'd like to think that he died with nothing but love in his heart. My family and I are pretty sure he had parvo- but we caught it too late to save him. He was my first dog that I owned on my own. He loved me so much. I loved him. He'd bark viciously at anyone who came in the house, but he was just a big teddy bear.--The only person he never barked at was Skye who only got to meet him twice. I don't really know what else to say about him, but I felt like I couldn't leave out his story. R.I.P Rocky 11/10/2013.
On a happier note, We also have three chihuahuas. Technically they are my sister's dogs but she is living in another state so me and my mom take care of them. Their names are Texas:
Pork (Short for PorkChop, formerly Arizona):
and Little Bear!
I love the little ones so much! Pork and Texas were dumped by their previous owner at the shelter with their sister Georgia. Not much is known about their previous life but they had passports...So I'm guessing they were spoiled! Pork is 9 now and Texas is 10. Little bear was at another shelter for over 4 months before my sister found his ad on PetFinder.com. They told us he was about 10. Our guess is that he's closer to 15-16. We've had him for a year and 2 months now. He's missing most of his teeth and sometimes he falls down,, but other than that he's a lively pup just like everyone else! Here are some more pictures of them:
Halloween 2014 - Texas the cow.
I drew eyebrows on Texas. Don't worry, It doesn't hurt him in any way, and he doesn't seem to mind everyone laughing at him!
Pork and her disguise
More eyebrows. - Still hilarious.
Burrito pork! She was being mean and fussy...so I wrapped her in a blanket. She calmed down immediately!
Halloween 2014 - Pork the turtle.
Halloween 2014 - Pumpkin Little Bear
Little Bear featuring angry tooth! Since he doesn't have many teeth, when he goes to take food from you sometimes he misses...Hence ANGRY TOOTH! He's a grumpy old man sometimes, too. This was after a bath.
I don't have as many pictures of Little Bear because he doesn't like to stand still ever.
Here they are all together, and with Max again:
And the newest member of my fur family comes from another bad situation (I rescued him on May 22 -8 months old)...His previous owner kept him locked in a cage that was too small for him. He'd bark all the time because he was alone - separation anxiety. And he's a very high-energy dog so when he was let out (to pee and stuff) he would destroy things because he never got adequate exercise. He'd gotten so stressed out that he had started tearing his own fur out. The owner's landlord gave him a couple months warning and told him that if he didn't find a new home for the dog, she would. She did. It may seem wrong to some people, but we did the right thing by taking him away from such a bad situation. Anyway, I brought him home and he's been nothing but smiles ever since. His favorite things are tennis balls and rawhides. - with supervision of course. He's no longer destructive with the exception of his own toys. He's good on and off leash. He has one light brown eye and one dark brown eye. His nostrils are pink while his nose is black. He loves every one he meets, and he's so sweet! I should also mention that me and Skye own him together and he lives with Skye and his family...but he's just as much mine as everyone elses. And now, with out any further suspense,, meet Cloud the Border Collie! (p.s. he turned a year old in September)
This is the first picture I took of him, on my lap the car ride home.
After he jumped in the back seat:
On his way to Skye's the first time (when he still lived with me) Did I mention he loves the car?
You can ALMOST tell in this picture, but his left eye is darker than his right.
Did I mention how much he loves the car? This was his trip to Skye's house - His For real Furever home.
We decided to call September 22 his birthday because it was 4 months after I got him, and he was 8 months then. I love my baby so much. He's helped me through so much. In many ways, I think he rescued me. ((Also, I love all our dogs, but he is MINE. Anyone who's been in a situation like this would understand..haha))
Anyway, This post ended up being way longer than I thought it would be, but I just had to tell you all about my fur family! Thank you so much for welcoming me to this forum! I look forward to learning as much as I can about ferrets and feeding them a natural diet as I can--And maybe even meeting some new friends. If you have any questions about me or my pups, feel free to ask! I don't bite.
Thank you for reading, and thank you for welcoming me! <3
