thinking of adding another ferret to the mix in the next year or 2 and this time i think we want to go with a breeder instead of a rescued mill ferret. i love my mill babies to death but i want to start off with a baby from good lines this time
does anyone know of any breeders in or around va? i am willing to go to do a little driving to the next state over, under, or above me. or even a breeder that ships?
i dont care about color or sex, i just want something healthy can can be put on raw easily and gets into lots of trouble

A truly responsible breeder probably won't ship. I don't know of any breeders in VA. Sally Heber is in Maryland. Ann Barzda is in New Jersey. There are several breeders in Ohio. And a few in the western U.S. Most breeders want to meet any potential buyers in person so you should be prepared to travel.

If you don't mind me asking, why won't breeders ship?

I would have to imagine it's to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the animal.

One thing to consider too, is to go to a sanctioned ferret show. Now that being said some of the best breeders don't necessarily participate in this but if you want to get and see a wide variety of ferrets and breeders this can be a fun way of doing this ciao

Breeders won't necessarily ship because simply they don't get to meet you. Many of the breeders I've known and dealt with want to see how you interact with their other ferrets, not just the kit you're picking up. They want to see you react to the kit and if the kit will react to you. Some will not place a kit with you if the interaction falls flat. I can remember one particular instance where I was looking for a Gr pyrenees and was scoping out a breeder. He told me I could come and have a look at his dogs, talk with him. I met every last one of his dogs, and some of the rescues he cared for. We talked for hours. Just as we were going to leave he said he'd take my name down, to put me on the list for a chance at a puppy, so we went into the house. That's when I met my first pyrenees puppy (actually 6 puppies). I shook my head and said to him, why didn't you tell me, this would have sold me on the spot. That's the point he said, I'm not trying to sell to you....you're trying to sell yourself to me and convince me you're going to make a good parent for one of my puppies....that's why many won't ship ciao
