Has anyone ever purchased ferrets from Carolina ferrets? If so, what is their temperament? Their health?

I've never heard of Carolina Ferrets. Is that a rescue or a breeder? nancyl is a breeder. I tagged her and next time she checks in, she may know of them.

I would also take a look at gfx ferrets, they may be in Carolina iirc . I have no experience with them but Joey the trained ferret used that breeder I believe.
But I would definitely look and ask to see if they are fed raw from day 1

I had not heard of them before, but I found their website. From what I read on there, it almost sounds like they have something against ferret shows... I would be very interested in hearing opinions from people who actually have dealt with this breeder. Just to my curiosity. www.carolinaferrets.net/index.html

We did have a member at one time who had purchased from this farm. The little one had a club foot, which caused some issues. Her distaste for shows is because she has been banned from participating in AFA events. I don't believe her status has changed recently ciao

My DEWs Hocus and Pocus are/were almost certainly Carolina ferrets and littermates. No tattoos, but originally came from a pet store in Tennessee. I think they came with paperwork, but I didn't get it and was never able to get in contact with their first owner again about it.
Both Hocus and Pocus mellowed as they aged, but Hocus used to be a biter (I affectionately call him my "problem child") and Pocus could be nippy, to the point that I didn't allow strangers to handle them. Pocus recently passed away at the age of 7 after a year of an illness we couldn't figure out. Hocus just turned 8 and has been adrenal for I think two years. He's also had tumors on his eyelids for years now. Nothing that affects his quality of life so far, but they're there.
So, just speaking for my two, they were/are definitely more "high spirited," less cuddly, and harder to train than any of my Marshall ferrets, and certainly not any healthier overall. I have to say I haven't really ever read anything complimentary about the Carolina mill.

Doing research and asking opinions is always a good thing. My only comment and hope is that each and every ferret, be they breeder, petstores, mill or rehomed ferrets, find their happy, healthy, safe and forever home.

That explains why they sound bitter about ferret shows. Most people who show their ferrets including myself, treat their ferrets like they are part of the family. Yes, we collect AFA championship points, and we get excited about ribbons and trophies. But the rest of the time when we are not showing them, they are just big fat spoiled ferrets. If I understand correctly, ferrets who come from AFA banned breeders cannot be shown at ferret shows either.

No, they cannot be shown if they're bred by banned breeders, you're correct. It's more complicated than that too...something to do with offspring too, but I've never paid much mind as I don't show and have no intention of ever showing. ciao

I checked GFX's site a couple times this year and it does't look like they're still breeding for sale.

I checked GFX's site a couple times this year and it does't look like they're still breeding for sale. I looked at a couple from the list (not all) on here when this post went up, this one appeared to still be actively selling: scarletts-happydookers.com/

Scarlett's still in business. Pam Van Overloop. Nancy Park (member here-Ferrettown USA). Ann Barzda (Hillcrest Ferrets). Plenty of much more ethical breeders.
