Sneakers looks a lot more alert and energetic this morning which is a good sign but she is still not standing / walking properly. Trying to get an appointment with a ferret specialist in the area to see if we can get a firm diagnosis.

Sneakers has traveled beyond the Rainbow Bridge. She was diagnosed with Juvenile Lymphoma today but the specialist at the Guelph Veterinary University Small Animal Clinic. Her x-rays showed a 3.5 cm mass which had compressed her lungs to 1/4 the normal size and pushed her heart well out of place. Ultrasound showed tumors in her liver and spleen (which was 3 x normal size). Her Adrenal Gland on the left hand side was also slightly enlarged so the vet said she was probably on her way to developing Adrenal Disease as well.
Thank you everyone for your support. They will be sending me the x-rays so if you want I can post them in the Lymphoma section when I get them. Please send out your best wishes to Sock's as she gets used to her sister being gone.

Of all these stupid ferret diseases, this one I hate the most. It's fast brutal and as the name suggests only attacks the young. I"m so sorry, that you had to find out about this particular disease. Poor wee Sneakers, her life had only just started. Poor Socks, watch the wee one carefully. She will be heartbroken and little ferrets die of broken hearts. Do you have Rescue Remedy? Watch her intake. Make sure she eats and drinks. We would very much appreciate if you don't mind posting the xrays in the lymphomas part of the forum. Just ask Jackie or Katt, even Sherry to help you post it if you need assistance. That type of information is always appreciated. I really was hoping against hope that this wasn't the diagnosis. I've had one, my Porthos. Your little one sounded so much like him I"m sorry ciao

Thanks everyone it was very hard to loose her today. I got both Socks & Sneakers 3 months ago for companionship and for someone to look after. If feels so horrible to have to loose one of them so soon. I went into this knowing that Ferrets are predisposed to certain ailments but I certainly wasn't prepared to loose one of them so early in their lives. It's going to take me a while to adjust to having her gone but I'm sure lots of hugs with Socks will help us both over the next little while.

Also, pick up some Bach's Rescue Remedy to help Socks deal with her grief. It will likely be very pronounced, and she may want to follow her friend to the bridge, once she realizes Sneakers is not coming back

I've already picked some up and started a search for a new ferret friend for her. I really don't like the idea of her being alone while I'm at work all day.
I like to think ferrets get into their usual trouble and play like crazy while their owners are at work (when I know that 80% of the time they are probably just sleeping). Going to be eventually installing a webcam to investigate this further.

Make sure you take her with you to pick out a new friend. Some refuse any other ferret but their bonded mate. I know when Sinnead passed, Boris didn't even want anything to do with his other cage mates for several days. He's ok with them now, but there were a few nasty fights.

DIP poor little sneakers So awful and scary that these things can happen at such a young age I'll be praying for little socks to pull through this tough time and for you as well!
