Adult mice come in a quantity of 50 through Mice Direct. How long would a bag of 50 last me if I were to feed two adult ferrets once a week? The one ferret is female, and the other is a male. Also, would I feed whole prey ONCE a day? or would I give it to them TWICE a day? Secondly, would the upper level of a multi level cage be appropriate? Or would it wind up getting all gutsy messy? Is there any way to prevent least amount of mess as possible?

It depends on the size of the mice and how much your ferrets are eating. My jill can eat a mouse on her own, another one eats about a half. At one point my jill kits were eating 1 rat per kit. My adults I feed once a day. The kits are still getting 2 meals a day. My jills at the moment are eating 1 large mouse a day. My hobs eat anywhere between 2 and 3 mice a day. Again it's all about weight. I don't have a gutsy mess as I gut my mice. I'm through cleaning up guts off cage bars and hidden (and thus firmly glued) spaces behind litter boxes and tossed on walls behind cages. How you do it is up to you. Whole prey can get messy but then it's no more messy than frankenprey if you gut your prey first. ciao

I feed Remus twice a day, but if you're feeding larger items (like a whole rat) you could just leave it in there for the day so they can munch when they feel like it. You will have to play around with amounts and feeding times and see what works for your future kids. Some ferrets eat 4 ounces a day, some eat 2, some eat more than that or less. Remus is just over one kilogram and he eats about three ounces of food each day. I feed on the top level of my FN. It's the only level of the cage I didn't cover with fleece. It doesn't get too messy. It helps a lot if you remove the stomach and intestines--most ferrets won't eat that anyway so it just ends up getting spattered everywhere. And I just wanted to thank you for mentioning MiceDirect! It's not a supplier I'd heard of before but based on a quick price check it might be the one I go with for rats! So thanks!
