I come to you guys again because you guys are crafty and good at ferret proofing. I have a hole in my bathroom closet to access underneath the tub. The closet has an inch gap and the ferrets can fit underneath. the hole is 9 x12 I put a covered noodle underneath the door after Gus found the hole and got underneath the house. I thought I solved the problem. Today, Tilly somehow removed the noodle and got under the house. She is safe now but I need a solution. I think the hole is suppose to be there but is there a way I can ferret proof this. I try not to let them in bathroom but ferrets are stubborn. I duct taped the noodle to the door for temporary solution.

Boy, that hole is going to be a Ferret Magnet.
Duct tape is a short term solution, as you know. A persistent ferret will get thru any duct tape. I know, I've seen it with mine. You need to go to a hardware store and get a piece of plywood and screw it in. That way if you need access, it can be unscrewed.
Then I would put something heavy in front of it. If its in front of the tub, maybe you could put something that would hold towels or bath supplies. You already know that keeping the door shut will only make them more determined to get into the bathroom and they will.

Yep, I agree with @poncesmom. That hole needs to be covered. Plexiglass or plywood and screws. Not only would that be dangerous for pets but for little kids as well. If you are renting they can't argue about a danger to children.

If you are renting they can't argue about a danger to children. That's a good point. Management can't argue with it for safety reasons. there are shelves in the closet so I can't put anything heavy in front of it. I was thinking of doing plywood but the damage and you guys just confirmed that management can't argue. Duct tape has nothing on my ferrets. You guys have seen Charlie rip it off. i knew I could count on HFFF.

Thank you. I will make a trip out Home Depot this weekend. I have seen these before at rentals but never knew what they were called. I am baffled as why they never covered up this hole. I am thinking that it will be an improvement and they won't care. Thank you everyone for your help! My ferrets thank you as well.

You need to make sure you screw into a stud, not just the sheetrock. Otherwise, your little buggers will dig and scratch at it until they pull the screws out of the rock... been there, done that!
But actually, if you're renting, management should fix the problem.

You definitely need to use wall anchors for the screws if you can't go into studs. If you do it yourself, Save the receipt, and take an after pic. The landlord might reimburse you. It's possible they just forgot to finish the job. It happens.

Looks like there is at least one stud there. If the structure is built on 16 on center studs you could go with a 16 x 16 box and have a stud on each side. the top and bottom can be boxed with a couple of 2 x 4s.
or you could just box it with 4 2 x 4 s any size you want but it should be boxed for structure.
Pluming guys rarely do drywall. so the plumber fixed it and they were probably going to send a drywall guy out to fix it. They will wait a bit to make sure it is not leaking before sending the drywall guy out. It probably got missed scheduling the drywall guy.

thanks for all the advice I wanted to do the access door but management is not really on top of things. I decided on plexiglass for the mean time. Thank you for all the opinions and advice! If it doesn't work, we'll ask management to fix it for us because of the draft. It leads to under the house so it is a valid excuse. \
