New member here, I don't really like having my picture taken so the only pics I have are from dog training/trials or memorable moments. These pics fall into the latter category lol Probably one of the greatest moments of my life here, holding 9mo old 60# snow leopard named Ipakanni

Welcome! Snow leopards are so awesome...and soft! I worked at a Saturn dealership that did a lot of joint stuff with jack Hanna and the Columbus zoo. One of the zookeepers had a snow leopard that she was training for educational stuff and she'd bring him in when she had her oil changed. He would hang out under my desk his name was Dorge. (Door-zhay) Last I heard, he had been transferred to a sanctuary in California. Sometimes she brought a serval too.

Thanks Dearie and kraesmom! The pics with Ipakanni were taken at the Kirshner Foundation in Northern California He certainly was soft! I've had the opportunity to interact with several of the animals there - European Brown Bear cub, Barbary Lion cub, tiger. They are a wonderful rescue/sanctuary organization and they do train some of their animals (like Ipakanni) for exhibitions, events, and TV appearances. Most of the animals there are special needs, and the staff does an excellent job of caring for them. They are inspiring people

Now that's extremely awesome. Wow....All I can remember was snuggling and scritching a puma and thought I'd died and gone to heaven. To feel that deep purr was so awesome. So, these guys are as soft as they look? I remember being astounded as to how course the puma's fur was. I'd expected soft but it wasn't ciao

Were you working there? I've never heard of a reputable sanctuary that allows visitors to pet and hold their animals. When I visited an animal sanctuary many of the animals had been rescued FROM cub/exotic petting businesses after they wore out their cute or got too big to handle.

Nope, didn't work there. When the folks you are with donate thousands and put on parties to raise donations from others and caters events and such, every year, it is a privilege for those certain people. ONLY babies or the animals that are being trained for public appearances, TV shows, etc to raise awareness are handled, and the handlers and staff are just a few feet away in with you 95% of the animals, no, no one goes in with other than staff. None of the adult exotics. I've been there several times, had the incredible opportunity to hold a Barbary lion cub, and a European brown bear cub also. They are a very very reputable sanctuary with excellent staff and top notch care for all the animals. Quite a few of the rescue facilities DO actually allow interaction, under specific circumstances, but they most certainly don't tell people about it, and when asked tell everyone no it isn't allowed. Because that isn't what the place is for or about, so they do not want people going expecting to handle the animals.
