I am freaked out right now. I woke up this morning after changing all the ferret pads last night and there are 4 mucusy red (light red) stools. They are thin and not formed. I don't know who it is. However, Kyra this morning looks gaunt (she is always thin) and appears more frail (possible?). They are all alert and otherwise perky. I fed beef last night but these poops are not normal. I have Kyra quarantined to see if she passes a stool. I need to rule out who it is before going to the vet. I will take a sample when I see something happen. But in the meantime I feel sick. What could cause this? The poops are not bright red but more of a light red. I will try to get a couple pics and load them up here soon. Ps. I checked and no prolapses, bloody bums etc. They all appear normal. However, Kyra appears to have been on a slow decline. (I have a hard time even saying this, as she is my heart ferret, my first and my baby....)

Could it be something that was eaten? Blood is not often red in stools though it does occur, it's usually surface, prolapse or fissures. Could this be urine (as it is a wee girlie we're talking about)? There is nothing scarier than finding blood and no cause but even scarier when you can't find who? Good luck, keep us posted. ciao

It is with the urine but it seems thicker than I would expect. But I have never seen anything like this before. Could that be part of the pee?
Also - I highly doubt anything eaten as they have their own ferret safe room. Nothing harmful they could get into. But the more I look maybe it is the urine? Can it be thicker like that?

Oh wow....That does look like a stool type excretion. No sign of who's that is? Any urine with that? or is it just the bloody ?? liquid. My bet is whoever has done this will do so again in short order. Anyone straining and not going? Restless? If that's urine, then someone is blocked or close to it and they should be very uncomfortable. You'd be looking for someone who's sleeping and not wanting to wake or looking desperately for a litter box. ciao

There are no signs of anything. Bear and miya were playing this morning, Mika was up and about - just being Mika. Kyra just seems tired but she's older and does like to sleep. But I have not seen any straining, everyone had been awake. Bear and Kyra are sleepier Ferrets so it's hard to tell with them. There is urine under it it appears, but it could be part of it. I can't tell. But they are one on to the other which tells me it must be one of my girls. Unless it's bears urine

Kyra peed and pooped. I'm trying Mika now. I was feeling her tummy. .. feels like there could be a firm mass on her left side. But knowing how large their spleens are it is so hard to say for sure. But she did have cancer once. Removed but I still keep that in the back of my mind...

Mika just went pee and poop and it looked normal as well. I will try Bear next. I doubt it is Miya as she has been playing like a maniac. I have no idea what the heck is going on!

Just had Bear in quarantine... nothing. Just one dark poop (they had beef last night so it looked OK)
No more of those poops in the room either. Ugh. I can't figure out what is going on.

All you can do is keep watching their poops and make sure they are eating/drinking okay. I know its frustrating.. its the bad part about having multiple ferrets I've got 21 and believe me when someone does a funky poop, it's a royal pain to figure out who did it, if I ever!

Is there any single possibility that any of them bragged a beef piece around the poop area? (I'm not sure how you have their space arranged but when I saw the images.. I just remembered the beefs getting defrosted). I'm still a kibble person so besides the really help-full charts here, all poops looks weird to me. But by the little experience I got, if it's too lousy as the photos and really came from a ferret. Could be either pee as you though and probably from something happening around the kidneys or maybe a bladder issue (if male). Far I knew regarding bloody stools, the reddish it is the coloring, the lower the intestine tract is involved. Where black bloody stools could be ulcers or something upper, the reddish usually is associated to something closer "to the exit" (hemorrhoids or some anus / rectum / small intestine leisure?). Again this is from a kibble feeder (hopefully a natural in the coming months), with still, small knowledge. I hope your little fuzz gets better! And please keep sharing how it is going! Hope It was just a scare!.

I have not seen any more poos like the ones above. No chance of the beef being dragged as it is in a few spots and I know meat blood vs this. Everyone seems OK.
A question for some ppl with experience with IBD. Could someone have developed a sensitivity? I don't feed beef super often (1-2 times a week) and the fact I don't see anymore bloody stools is stumping me. I'm relieved but not really, since I have no answer. I just hope like heck it doesn't keep happening.

I don't know what the problem was but there was nothing more overnight. I will just keep observing and hoping that they are all OK. That was quite upsetting and scary. (sniff)
