She is SOOO pretty And I've got one who had a blaze like that as well. Except Zeus has now roaned out almost to a DEW, so it's not so visible anymore. Congrats on your new baby girl, and I'm so glad you gave her a home

Oh yes, it's true -- my new little darlin' is deaf as a post! Now we've decided to name her Marlee. I spent an hour watching Cricket try to play with her, and she's just not interested. She just goes on her adorable, slow and wobbly way. Of course you know what that means... soon I'll have to locate ANOTHER ferret so Cricket has a real playmate. Let the adventures in teaching sign language begin!

She has a slight jaw issue in that she can't open her jaw as wide as the others, but it hasn't affected her too bad other than being a noisy eater and leaving lots of crumbs That too is a waardenburg thing. Well, so far the messy eater thing has proven true for my little girl, too! She left an amazing mess after the last meal.

Has anyone got the Wolfy's Wondiferous World of Weasels link..it seems that it's no longer on Geocities? It's a fantastic article on just about everything you would want to know about dealing with deaf ferrets. ciao

Thank you so much. It offers a wealth of information regarding deaf ferrets and all the necessary components. I agree with learning to be a ferret. Captain Jack was my "Oh, I'm a ferret??" and had to learn how to be a ferret. He's now one of my smarter ferrets who has a lot of fun doing just that. He mixes it up with the best of them and cause as much if not more mischief. If his people could only see him now ;D When he came to me he thought he was a stuffy. His people had taught him that he was just that....a stuffy ciao

Thanks so much for the link! I'm off to check it out right now. I hope Marlee has the same experience of "learning to be a ferret." She definitely seems to be loosening up a bit. I had this foster cat named Suki that she reminds me of. I foster for the Seattle Animal Shelter, and I took Suki as a hard-luck special needs case, assuming I was going to be adopting her. I was told she had cerebellar hypoplasia and she had been severely neglected. And she was elderly. I got Suki home and shaved her (she was a fully matted, long haired Himalayan mix) and fed her good food, and cuddled her. She gained a pound a week and started socializing with my other fosters. The vet said she was about 3 years old. Turns out she'd been kept in a garage alone for a long time. And she didn't have cerebellar hypoplasia -- she was just weak and malnourished. She turned into a gorgeous, lovable cat that was snapped up instantly at the adoption event. I thought I was going to be nursing her forever and it was only 3 months! But the way Marlee is trying to play reminds me of how Suki interacted with the other cats at first -- awkward and clumsy and not sure what kind of animal she is. I have faith she'll figure it out! Thanks for the advice and support. I'm going to go do some reading.

Marlee is totally loosening up - it's so heartening to watch. She's already moving much more steadily and using her hind legs a ton more. Last night there was even Weasel War Dancing!! I was so proud of her attacking the hand towel. She wasn't sure what to do with toys at first but she's totally playing now. And even pouncing back a little when Cricket attacks her. I have high hopes for her re-discovering her ferret-hood. Especially since she's taking to the raw diet!

Awww how fantastic! Pixie surprises me sometimes too. She's 2, but acts like a older lady sometimes. she's a people ferret, thinks she actually human. She follows me around and lounges around the house. But today, showed her the new Easter grass, and she went bonkers! Jumping up and down, dooking up a storm! It's so adorable when they have fun
