I've been a bit out of pocket, but I'm so glad this episode has had a good resolution. And I'd be giving the "there's absolutely no blockage" vet a call. They also double billed me. They claim they only swiped my card once and the terminal shows only one transaction, but it is on my bank statement twice with in minutes of each other for the same exact amount. So I am extra not happy. I am thankful for the lactated ringer solution they gave her but that was no $300+ worth. Call the bank and have them sort it out, they should be able to cancel the double transaction for you.

I should be sorted, hopefully. It just added insult to injury.

I am furious at them but I understand they don't take "exotic" but still... I do have to say though, that I am very happy with the vet that did Gilly's surgery. She also gave us the number of a 24 hour clinic that does take ferrets if something happens after hours or on weekends. If they don't take exotics & aren't comfortable/able to treat them they should have refused to see you from the start. Seems a bit unethical to treat an animal you don't have training with.

I'm so glad she pulled through, and I hope recovery goes well for her.
When I first got Rolo, his vet that saw him for his first checkup/vaccines gave me a 30min talk because he was my first ferret, and one of the things he mentioned was to never have the foam ear plugs in the house, they seem to be a big problem for ferrets that come to his clinic, and as of 4.5 years ago he said he'd personally had to remove around 8-9 of them from his ferret patients. I'm so glad he was my first vet because he gave me tons of good advice as a new ferrent.

Wow! I'm so glad everything worked out. I too would definitely be giving the other vet a call and making sure he knew that he was wrong. You don't have to do it in a nasty way but it would be good for him to know so he can learn from the incident. Could save a future ferrets life.

so glad everything worked out for Gilly. Is she mostly recovered now and has she had her stitches out and is she able to be with her buddies now?
Although I hadn't signed in to post while all this was happening I did follow along and was so relieved when she was finally treated.
Just a note for all, at both IFCA ferret health symposiums I went to, it was noted that the most common blockage surgery for ferrets was ear plugs and on a hands up on the spot survey it was found nearly everyone had them in their home (first symposium, I think I was the only one that didn't, I hate things in my ears)

Everything is pretty much back to normal. She is officially off all restrictions as of yesterday thank goodness. Trying to restrict a 5 month old ferret for 14 days takes an act of God. Even in a travel cage . She got plenty of floor time and social time (albeit highly supervised) she was still cage raging by the end of the first week. (Shhh don't tell the vet that I actually stopped keeping her in the travel cage at day 10) I am on a mission to ban everything foam in my home. Especially since we free roam during the day. I am never buying ear plugs again. I even switched to the plastic ear bud covers despite my preference for the foam.

Glad she is all better. Also one of the advantages of a raw diet is that recuperation time is often shorter due to better hydration and overall better health.
