I noticed this morning that Zero (8 months) was limping his right hind leg. He is eating and playing fine but he seems a little tired. I know that this may be an insulinoma or something worse but my husband says that last night he had him in bed so i am wondering if he crushed his leg by accident. The problem is not in the hip but rather on the toes. He can move the leg up and down and he can even move his little paws but he seems like he wants to sleep it off. He closes his eyes when i touch his paws but they dont seem broken since he is moving them. My doctor wont be open this week for some reason so i was thinking if i could wait 24 hrs in case its a sprained paw or something before i take him to the emergency clinic? Did any of you have problems like these before?

Ferrets are very good at hiding the amount of pain they're in. The fact that he's closing his eyes while you're manipulating the foot would concern me, the increased rest also proves he's trying to hide an problem. Has someone stepped on his foot? Can you not find another vet in the area that can treat your ferret? ciao

I live in the middle of nowhere and this is the only.vet that treat ferrets around here. Yesterday I took him to the other one and she said that she only treats farm animals and no small animals. I tried toask her to just take a look at his leg and refused. I don't belueve these people. Today I got him out of the cage and as always he drinks and eats a lot. He is walking a little better than yesterday. I don't think someone stepped on.his foot because when they are out of the cage they are in a ferret prrofed room anf when we are in we wear no shoes and always look down. I think my husband stepped on his foot while they were sleeping together in bed. I will try and reach my vet again otherwise I will do thr three hour drive to the emergency clinic.

Do not give him anything at all unless prescribed by the vet. There are only a few pain meds ferrets can have, and those go by weight. I would get him in for a once over as soon as possible, and otherwise make sure he is eating and drinking etc
