"ATTENTION !!!! If you received a Des implant in the last week or so, Or just ordered be aware Vibrac JUST recalled their latest shipment!! When the hurricane grounded their shipment in Hawaii they found out the implants weren't kept in proper temps. I had gotten 2...but had not used yet. Waiting for details on how they will fix this. If you know you just got some and used them...contact them asap! Kristen Elsey is sending out the message. This is terribly important"

More info will be posted as we receive it. Currently this has been reported by a few users on our FB page who's vet's got the call directly from Virbac. At this point there is no official post on their website or the FDA's recall's lists but it should only be a matter of time.

Ok, I called Vibrac and according to them there is not a "recall" but the Deslorelin is on "hold" (currently unavailable). She did say that there were two affected lot numbers but couldn't give them to me. She said people need to contact their vets. One lot number is scv281b21, don't have the other one so far.

I would think that anyone who'd had received their order prior to May should be good to go. Double check but if you've been using them (as I have been) and they're working then they're ok. Improper storage is the issue right now. ciao

Just wanted to give an update on my end, I just spoke with my vet and the two DES implants that I ordered never arrived because of the storage temp issue. Virbac informed vet that they cannot ship any more implants out until Mid Nov.

My vet spoke to Virbac today and yes, my two implants had been on that plane (I posted a couple weeks ago about being told they were delayed by the hurricane, but it was never specifically noted that they were already in transit). So Virbac says to just watch my two ferrets for any signs that the implants aren't working or are wearing off too soon and then contact my vet again. And then what, I don't know. >

Nice that they just expect you to buy new ones. Bastards.

So if the implants fail due to their mistake, they won't replace them at their own cost? That sounds illegal.

I'm somewhat disappointed that Virbac apparently hadn't already contacted my vet about it. I spoke with a tech who immediately called Virbac and then called me back. Maybe they'll get the info packet mentioned above that will say more. It's upsetting because this is such an inexact science to begin with. What if the implants aren't working and my boys have a hormonal surge? By the time I re-implant them that damage is already done to their bodies. Or if it seems to work, but then in three months instead of six or eight or twelve one of them is scruffy and itchy again, is the suspect implant to blame? And then I have to dig up another six hundred bucks? I can't say a hurricane is Virbac's fault, but it's a situation both pricey and potentially hazardous to my boys.
