So clumping litter is driving me CRAZY. It is everywhere!!! So I've decided to hang onto the Scwheat Scoop until they are a little older (The multicat formula doesn't smell funky by the way to add to that debate ;D) and put them on pelleted litter. They love digging and kicking and playing and tracking the clumping litter far too much right now, and clean-up is a big job. So I do have Yesterday's News litter in my house for my hedgehogs, it's the cat version (not the ferret one) and it's the non-scented formula. But ever since they came out with the "new softer texture", the pieces are much smaller and softer and not as long or hard as most pelleted litters people use for ferrets. Here's how small some of the pieces are: (that's a Canadian quarter for size comparison) Now is this going to be a concern? My hedgehogs all tried to eat the litter when they first changed it from the longer pieces to the softer smaller ones and I'm worried the ferrets might do the same. Is there a better pelleted litter with longer pellets that would be better / safer?

I use the cat version of Yesterday's News and my ferrets don't eat it. I tried the ferret version and the pellets all broke in half anyways and ended up looking the same as the cat version. Ferret version was more expensive so I just buy the cat stuff.
They've never tried to eat it but I've also never given them a whole lot of kibble.. someone earlier, I think Fearless, suggested their kits tried to eat the pelleted litter cause it looks like Marshall's kibble.
They will sometimes dig in it directly after I wash out the box but as soon as poop goes in it, they leave it alone.
It WILL smell a bit more than Shweat Scoop, though, so consider sticking some baking soda in the bottom of the box!

I use the softer version of Yesterday's News. Mine haven't tried to eat it, except by accident when they try to stash meat in the litter box.
I find it's easier to scoop and they don't spend as much time trying to find the "perfect" position before going.

I don't see it being an issue, like Katirhi said, it breaks up and looks the same anyways.

I've never used the ferret type, it was too expensive for too little... I haven't noticed any change in the cat type but haven't had any problems with anyone eating it...sleeping in it yes, but not eating it....

Awesome, thanks guys, I switched and they don't think its food, nor do they think it's a dig box, Not as easy to scoop as clumping but much better for staying in the box!
