1) List 2 good sources of taurine.
First and foremost heart and if there is no hearts available, then can use tongue. Fish has taurine and red meat, muscles that are under constant use.
2) How can you tell if your ferret is getting too much or too little bone?
His/her stools are loose if getting too little bone. Too much bone can cause constipation and stools will be dry and hard.
3) What percent of the diet should be organ?
Organ should be 10% of total diet. 5% liver and 5 % other organ(kidney, lung, brain.. any part of body that secretes.) 4) Give 2 examples each of muscle meat, edible bones, and organs.
Muscle meat: pork tenderloin, goose fillet. Ebidle bones: frog legs, chicken wings. Organs: liver, kidney.
5) What is a healthy diet item that can be used for hairballs, and how often should you give it?
Raw eggs. Can give 1 chicken egg yolk a week or 4-5 quail eggs a week. Raw salmon oil can also be used for hairballs.
6)How can you tell if your ferret is too fat or too thin?
Ferrets are ment to be lean. If you pick your ferret up and hold him under its first legs and let him hang his belly should be like a tube not round shape. He is too thin when you can feel his ribs or see his bones.

Looks good! I'll submit your menu and if it's approved, you'll hear from Heather within the next couple of days How are the boys getting along now? Have you gotten August's urine sample to the vet yet? Is he still leaking during sleep?

August and Ian are becoming friends slowly. Today they were togerther in a room about 1,5 hours and August didn't show any interest for Ian and then Ian was the one who was constantly running after August and tring to bite him and play with him. Once he bite August from his ear and then August got angry, passed gas and bite Ian back but after that everything was peaceful again. Their fight only lasted a few minutes and after that Ian was again running after August and tring to provoke him. It even seems that August is getting tired of Ian because he is so active and wants to wrestle all the time I did got the urine sample to vet's office and the results didn't show anything wrong. Vet said he's completely healthy. He's urine pH was 5. I think maybe I just have to give his body time to cleanse and heal. He has been on a very bad diet for a long time, maybe he just needs time. It seems to me that he is not leaking so much urine during sleep anymore, at least I can't smell it on his bedding as before.

Awww, I'm so glad they're starting to get along. When I brought my little girl home, my boy got along with her and let her follow him around. He showed her all the good hiding places in the house but he was very hesitant about actually playing with her. He had been alone for several months at that point and I think that he really didn't know WHAT to do with her. But now after 5 months together - oh my goodness! They play and wrestle and chase and work together making ferrety mischief all over the house... such as this morning's escapade - trying to stash hubby's toolbox under the couch, lol. In a few more weeks, August and Ian will be sleeping together and getting themselves into trouble together too! I'm glad that August was declared healthy, but the urine leakage still bothers me. Incontinence is one of the symptoms of adrenal. If it continues, you'll want to be watching for other symptoms and discussing adrenal with your vet. Hopefully, it's as you say and he just needs more time for his little body to heal and cleanse, but I do want you to be aware that it could possibly be a sign of something serious.

I would like to see either another prey or another bone in meal in your menu. Do you dust your whole meats with powdered egg shell or bone meal? The menu isn't looking bad at all, I'm just concerned with your calcium intake ciao

Heather, really? She has 8 whole prey/bone-in meals and only 4 muscle meat, plus the heart and organ. Not questioning your judgement, just searching for more knowledge.

I have added powdered egg shells to muscle meats and always serve egg with egg shell powder. August eats it well, Ian doesn't like it very much.
I swiched one muscle meat meal with whole pray/bone-in meal like mouse or chicken necks.

Watch their stools. I didn't mean you to add powdered egg shell to the rest of your meats. Sorry if that's what you thought I implied. Check your guys stool, I only meant that you would be running short of one calcium meal not a whole bunch. To add that much egg shell would probably give them rather dry stools, not something you'd want to do. The menu looks good, really, I meant that. All you needed to do was possibly switch up one muscle meal with a mouse or whatever. It's not that big a deal in the grand scheme of things because you will watch their stools and make adjustments as needed. All we need is a working menu for a week, I'm not trying to throw you or your mentor a curve ball. Write up (copy, whatever) you're final menu and post it here and I will ok it with whatever adjustments you've made. ciao

Congratulations You've graduated and you're ready to walk this path alone, now . You have the foundation to help you feed your fuzzes in a more natural and healthy manner. Please remember that your learning never stops, and dietary needs change from ferret to ferret and throughout each their lives. I would like you to be aware that though you now have the capability and the knowledge to create your little ones diets you are never alone and that your mentor (you need only pm) is always available to you. The list is also a very good resource and you should always be aware that it's available to answer any questions you may have either about diet or care. Good luck, in a few days Sherry will lock down this thread and place it in the archives but be aware that you can always look through it as a reference tool but you just will not be able to post to it. Your mentor will be in to congratulate you shortly  ciao
