Hello, I know your busy with work, but I just wanted to make sure you seen my question on the organ amounts to feed that I posted on Sept 6th...The weekly menu and updates have been posted also over the past two days. No current updates at this time. Still awaiting new diet to arrive for Shift, as shipping takes forever here in New Mexico I guess Thanks

I never really go by ounces when I measure my food just because the amount varies with each of my ferrets lol. I'm sorry for the delay, it's been hectic. I do 1 full meal of hearts, 1 meal of liver and 1 meal of my other organ. Then usually I have a day where I do a mix of liver and heart, then a mix of my organ and some sort of grind. Sometimes if I have a picky ferret I'll make a liver/heart/organ soupie that has some sort of grind mixed in to take away some of the taste. I'll put all of their weekly food into that and I'll just portion it out over the week.
It's okay if the meal isn't balanced every week, but over a months span I keep mine pretty well balanced. I might go a little heavier on the bone and organ one week (to balance each other out and keep the poops under control) then heavier on the muscle meat and grinds.
I do think you need a bit more organ but over all it looks good. I'd keep an eye on Cams teeth if he is eating that much soft food.
The best thing for shift is just to make notes on what his poop looks like after each protein he eats, and I wouldn't introduce a new one but maybe once a week.

Thank you for the info and the advice on feeding organs. I am going to start feeding them more then. I thibnk that is a great idea to make a full batch of organs to feed and them portion it out throughout the week! Im going to do this! I will definitely keep an eye on Cams teeth. Both boys get their teeth brushed at home once a week to help prevent build up and the girls usually get at least a mouth inspection. Some of Shifts food came in last night. I ordered him some lamb limited ingredient canned food by natured variety instinct and a lamb powder supplement also by natures variety. We tried a little bit last night and he doesnt like it too much but my plan was to gradually put it in with his regular soups. Today his good stuff should be in. Its a grind of mutton/organs/bones from Hare Today. so I am wanting to slowly be put that in too. So your recommendation is to only give him Lamb once a week for now? I will keep track of his poops also. The past two days they look almost normal! YAY! (dance) and next week Im supposed to start weaning him off of pred too. Just as a note, I am beginning to add pancreatic enzymes and reishi mushroom into his food also (started this yesterday). For Cam, I ordered him a duck/organ/bone grind from Hare Today to start fattening him up a little bit more Thanks again!

Sorry the way I wrote that out was a bit of a mess. I was trying to type it out on a phone. - one full meal of hearts - one meal of half hearts, half organs - one meal of full organs
Half of that is liver. I wrote it out wrong.
For the lamb, I'm saying only introduce a new protein once a week. So for 1 week you can add lamb to his meals and see how he tolerates it. If he starts to have loose poops, back off the lamb or whatever protein it is and go back to what is "safe". With my IBD girl she can't tolerate chicken, eggs or fish, too much beef and she gets a belly ache.. but goat, lamb, turkey or duck (once a week, no more) and pork is usually okay.
Just go slow, give him the meal of lamb, see how his tummy is for 24 hours, then feed him lamb once a day for the rest of the week and if he is okay, then I would say its a safe food. Then if you want to try the next week with pork, I'd do the same.. one meal of pork, wait 24 hours, if no yukky poops, then add a meal of pork a day for the rest of the week. The pancreatic enzymes and mushrooms do help, I'm glad your using them.

Thank you Amanda! That all makes perfect sense! He is not wild about the lamb (LOL of course!) so I've been having to force feed him, and so far ive only mixed a little bit in his food but he doesn't like it. I don't like to force feed and stress him out. Any advice for making him like it better or just keep trying? Also, the reishi mushroom is not very tasty as Im sure you know, so any advice on that. Every time I put it in soups (Im doing 1/8 capsule 2x a day), he is repulsed LOL.

Oh also, I fed the girls a larger amount of organs last night. It was 1 chicken heart, chicken liver, and beef kidney. all cam out to 1.3 oz each. Anyways, there poops are darker than normal today. IS that ok?

Try mixing his old food in with the lamb and see if that helps. As for the reishi .. I'll ask Sherry, she's used it a lot, I have not.
Darker stools with organ meals is normal, they are sometimes sticky and goopy

Thank you Amanda. I did get him to eat the relishing with baby food, but if am trying to steer away from baby food with chicken. If Shift were to have a chicken allergy, is turkey baby food safe?

If that is how he will take it, then worry about eliminating it from his diet last.
The only way to know for shift is to try it. I will say often ferrets who have chicken allergies can be sensitive to all birds. Also another moderator has discovered his ferrets who have chicken allergies, can eat chicken if it's organic/hormone/antibiotic free.

This week I did not make much progress on switching him over to Lamb. He hates the canned lamb when I put it in soups. He will eat the natures variety Raw boost lamb supplement most of the time. Unfortunately I am still awaiting my actual raw food of Lamb (and other stuff) from Hare Today. The fed ex lost my package and it never showed up (was supposed to be here last Friday. I am placing a new order tomorrow of raw food. I really cannot make much progress without it. Everything I have is poultry based right now...so Im kind of stuck in a rut until my food arrives.
