hi everyone im new to this forum and wanted to show my DIY ferret cage.th e cage has 5 wide opening doors and opening top it is easy to clean and very affordable in fact just $30 I used small spaced storage cubes just $20 zip ties, cardboard, trash bag and durable water proof drawer liner from ikea. I used a box cutter and made a bottom tray shape to prevents spills on carpet. I them glued a trash bag to the bottom to make it water proof and for the up stairs I cut my incredibly thick drawer liner to fit and my custom liner to top it off so that's my cage enjoy

What are the dimensions on the squares in those storage cubes? It looks like smaller jills might get stuck in them.

The bar spacing is 1 1\4 and works for me because I have a male hob I've heard of people using wire mesh but to me the holes are fairly small

That would definitely be more than large enough for a couple of my females to get through. Not stuck, but actually through.

Yeah, Evanna and Eris can both fit through those types of cage holes haha, but you can get smaller spaced holes.

I bought some of those cubes to make a barricade for my ferrets. got it all set up and my little sprite Cassia comes right to the other side and comes up to me like what ya doing. I was deflated. I forgot how small she was.

Most people that use the C&C cages have to overlay two panels to make the holes smaller. Also, trashbags are not waterproof for long- if the ferrets can get at it at all, it'll be shredded in no time and they'll make a mess of that cardboard, you'll probably be replacing it regularly as it gets water and poo on it.

I made a C&C cage as well (I own hedgehogs so its more of a space saver for me) I used Chloroplast (plastic cardboard used for signs, you can buy it from hardware stores) and I measured out the dimensions on there and then I purchased Silicon and used that to help seal the cracks between the sides and bottom pieces of the cage. I suggest waiting a couple of days so the silicon fully dries and looses its smell before placing your ferrets in with them. This makes it easy for when they make a mess because its pretty much a massive tray so you can remove the cubes on the outside and pull the tray out for easy cleaning and placing new liners in. I placed toys in the corners so they play with those rather then scratching at the silicon. I will be moving soon so I will be increasing the cage size but I will post pictures when I have the time!
