No most definitely not. Absolutely no processed or flavored meats period. First off the salt is really, really bad for them. Then you have the other seasonings, many of which can be toxic (if there is any onion or garlic especially!), and at the very least are not at all good for them. THEN you have the preservatives, which are often carcinogenic - ferrets are little cancer machines without any help. Best rule of thumb is if it is not something they could eat in the wild (a raw, unseasoned, unprocessed, unpreserved part of a dead animal either whole prey or carrion), then do Not give it to them. What you CAN give them is Raw UNCURED bacon. Which also goes by the name of pork belly. Make sure it is UNcured, NOT salted, and NOT seasoned. It's just fatty pork belly meat.

No worries, I know what moving is like and I expected posts to slow down a bit as a result. Trust me I have been there done that maaaaaaaaany times! Just update when you can. Making sure that they are eating during the stressful transition is the most important. How is Mr. Big doing?

Well we made it and everyone survived the move! Including the ferrets! lol We are about half way unpacked and all of our animals are so much happier with 10 times the space to roam and play. Puddin and LuLu stayed on the raw diet through the move, however BigBoy had some pretty serious anxiety. The only way he would eat is if we took kibble and ground it up and sprinkled it on the raw kinda like Parm on top of spaghetti. He hasnt lost any weight and to be honest I think he is a little leaner. He isnt fat like he used to be but he looks so healthy. His fur is still rough but it seems to have a fluffiness it didnt have before. We are working the ground kibble out of his diet again and so far so good. They get outside time now daily and get to play in the sun and grass and they just love it. Ill be posting weight updates here shortly as well.

Checking for updates. Have you tried adding slivers back in yet, and if so how did it go?

Thank you for being so patient with me. I know I have been neglecting my posts here. I haven't however been neglecting my fuzbutts, lol. We did a weigh in just now and here are the standings. LuLu 1pound 12 3/4 oz. BigBoy 2pounds 10 3/4 oz. Puddin 2pounds 14 1/4 oz. We re weighed Puddin 3 times. It just doesn't seem right. His last weigh in he was 2pounds 14 5/8oz. He is huge though. I was convinced he had gained at least a pound. I don't get it. Anyway. We have tried the slivers and all they do is eat around them. They get pushed to the side. We have tried mixing them in with the rest so they don't see them, but it doesn't make any difference. Whats our next step?

OMG I definitely misread that at first! LOL I thought you said Puddin was 14oz (missed the 2lb)..I was like how could he have lost half of his body mass?! *heartattack* hahaha PHEW! That's a relief. As long as he is holding steady and looks good I'm not worried. How big are the slivers you are trying right now? How thick is the soup consistency? Next step depends, we can take one of two routes. Depending on the sliver size you can make them smaller and hand feed. Do the grab and dab like you did with the soup when you can, and hand feed them the slivers at meal times. Getting from soup to chunks is usually the hardest part of the switch - after that they are over the hump. To get through the hump though usually takes some hand feeding at some point or another. The other option is to start by mixing in ground meat to get them used to the thicker texture, and then sneak slivers into the grinds. It's a bit sneakier/more subtle. Either route is fine.

They are doing pretty good. Puddin has no problem eating the slivers, but LuLu and BigBoy wont touch them. LuLu will sniff it and then start to nibble and then turn her nose up at it. We keep trying daily with each meal. Other than persistence I dont know what else to do.
