I would look for something that will be easy access for you and the ferrets, so something low to the ground with a decent sized door. Many will say Ferret Nations are the best, but I haven't been able to find anywhere selling them in the UK.

The first one and the third one are like my travel cage. Intended for my four to take a short trip in. The second one would be better for your little one to spend time in, overnight. Since you want to go free roam, the only time that your little one might spend in it, would be if you have overnight guests and don't trust them to watch doors. If a cable guy or plumber or someone comes over and is spending some time in the house, you might want to put him up for a few hours. This is the one that I bought, but we've never taken it anywhere and its hard to get into to clean. www.petco.com/product/104532/Marshall-Pet-Products-Folding-Ferret-Mansion.aspxI would go with a Ferret Nation. They are the most popular and easiest to clean. Once your little one is home, if you find that you need a cage, more than you thought, then a Ferret Nation will be a really good cage and you'll be glad that you have it and don't have to purchase another one.

I posted in the other thread so I apologize if you saw it there first.... but I'd go with a c&c cage.
This is Rolo's cage:
This is another youtuber's c&c cage.
Pros of these cages is that they are cheap and you can convert them and build them to fit your needs. They can be as big or small as you like/have space for. Also the litterbox that the second video uses is the PERFECT size for these cages, and I bought one after I saw his video lol.

So those bars are not big enough for a ferret to get through?!...I mean, obviously they are not if you are recommending one...they just look so big for a ferret for some reason...I can see one trying to slink through hahaha! Thanks, I will have a look.

It's harder to tell by the pictures, but I think the spacing looks to be 1-1.5 inches between bars.

Thanks, I will have a look. If you have very young kits or otherwise unusually tiny ferrets I wouldn't recommend it. Here is Rolo being a very good sport and demonstrating the size of the bars VS his face. They are much too small for him to fit through.

Thanks, I will have a look. That brings up a good point. My Mika is a small female and she can get under our cleaning closet door. The space under the door measures at just one inch. Funny enough, she can get in, but not back out of the closet. Sometimes, I walk by and see this tiny little paw sticking out and waiting for someone to come get her. She can also open cabinets and get into them. Again, she can't get out of them. They push outward, you would think she would figure that out.

Rule of thumb with bar spacing: if their head fits, the rest does too and they can get out if they figure that fact out. I've watched my girls slither under doors like a snake.

"uh, mum...watz u doin? Put me down".

I have a couple of jills who could easily fit through that bar spacing. I've had gibbs who've been able to get through spacing that my sprites didn't even think about. Some of it is directly related to how much of an escape artist your ferret is. I've got a couple who would just view this as a challenge that must be met (headwall) ciao

If you wanted to go down the C&C route, then you could double the panels, so they overlap to reduce the space. You would need lots of time, patience and cable ties to make a big cage but could still work out better than a lot of commercial cages. I personally haven't found a cage I like in the UK.

Is there a critter nation cage available there? Or was that in Oz? I had thought they were similar to ferret nations. You could possibly get the add-on upper level by itself if you didn't need the base and wheels.

One of my friends who had a tiny ferret just covered the grids with chicken wire and that seemed to work really well. That girl in particular was such an escape artist & dedicated thief.
