Right slight addition to my Friday PM menu - I am giving Haggis & Neeps their first thawed day old chick to try as well as the lamb mince - the portion of mince I have will not be enough for my gannets and its the last of it so may as well try a chick too. Will probably cut it open a bit and leave them to it. They worked out the chicken eggs last night with just a slight crack in them

Last night I popped the wee fellas in their playpen for a while and put the day old chick in. They loved in they took it in turns running about with it in their mouths and squabbling over it. Came down to tug of war and each of them got a bit of chick 15 mins later all that was left was the head which one of them stashed in their tube next time they get one each.

Yep, a chick is a treasure and a treat. It's best to give them each one. A chick is more of a treat, than a meal. There isn't alot of nutrients in a chick, so it shouldn't count as a full meal.

ferrets are like us they like all the treats and junk food that's bad if they eat too much I think I will add a chick each once a week as a treat for them as a snack I am good they only will get that and a bit of occasional duck fat as a treat which they go nuts for too. I think if I was as strict on myself as I am with my ferts diet I would be a healthier person

I have decided that once my guys kibble finishes which should be in the next 2/3 weeks I will not bother getting any more they just snorkle in it anyway and chuck it about their hutch I doubt they have bothered eating much lately and they have only had it once a week too.

Haggis & Neeps both full of beans as usual. Neeps is turning into a bit of a cuddler with people, he just kinda chills out when picked up in the last few days and waits enjoys the attention. Haggis either likes short rides on your shoulder or wriggles like crazy so he can get down to play Today when the rain slackens of at some point today I am going to wear out the ferts on a walk then weigh them to see how they are doing They ate Mackerel fillets with skin olive oil this morning, and stashed a bit for later - they like to keep a wee snack in. Tonight they will get a Chick wing with bones each Both are growing so well and their coats are so soft and fluffy. Neeps scratch/graze on his back is almost healed Taking them out for walks most days - they love diving for hedges when cars pass on the road or flattening themselves on the ground like they are scared - I just think they know I will stop and give them a tickle to reassure them they have seen so many cars now I think they just want the tickle. The moment they get it they go on their way whether the car is still there or not lol

Yeah I do the same small freezer bags are so handy. Problem I have is I did not label them and I have so many going in the freezer is an adventure thankfully the wee bags are see trough so I can tell what they are and I put the bags in different parts of my freezer drawer so I know what organs are what and what the different meats and pones are if I get much more meat in I will be getting a marker pen to avoid confusion lol This helped me. I have an extra freezer, so space isn't an issue. However, I got tired of fishing thru all the little baggies: I bought the bins at the Dollar Store. Do you have those, (well, pound store?) everything is a dollar. I'm so impressed with how well, Haggis and Neeps are doing. Have you smelled Grapetails, yet? Give those two darlings, a big hug from me.

A yes pound stores are great Your freezer looks very organized. I have a whole shelf/drawer for the kits in a very large freezer in the house but in a few years when I should be nearer to completing the current decorating/building projects the ferts will get their own freezer too and maybe more fert friends. nope no grape tales just soft fur and nice gentle fert smell yeah the wee guys are great and keep me happy with their silly antics lol.

See if you can find some Quail. That's a favorite with alot of the forum ferrets.
Haggis and Neeps are really eating well. They like Beef, that's fantastic. They're good with organs and they like lamb. They're eating bone. I'm so impressed.
Honestly, I wouldn't bother finishing the kibble. Put it outside for the squirrels or in an airtight container for an emergency.
Have you weighed them lately?

Starting them on raw young made it easier Quail is v expensive in the shops always looking for some on last day of sell by date but nowt so far. I found an online commercial frozen source based in a town only 15 miles away so may be cheaper for some meats there Got a bit of a scale problem - mine are too small and the bowl full of ferts won't sit still - got some fishing scales on order where I can hang them from a bag and get an accurate weight that way - much easier hehe They should be through the any day now post and then they will be weighed
