1. Ferret's name: Loki 2. Ferret's weight: 39-40 ounces 3. Ferret has eaten "X" amount on average per meal: About 1 cup and a half-2 cups of kibble a day. (It's hard to say because he likes to dig in his bowl and he rarely ever "finished" a single serving). He also would get a very small piece of freeze dried beef liver as a treat. 4. Stools on various proteins: Normal 5. Activity levels: Normal and very active. He is currently obsessed with my kitchen and keeps finding new ways in no matter what I do. 6. Weekly menu: I started with the basic soupie mix of chicken bits (breast, hearts, livers) and egg shell.

Last night he ate about 3 tablespoons of the soupie mix. This morning he has eaten at least another tablespoon and a half. He is very active and happy! Loki even went to his bowl independently a few times. Though I think he likes the beef liver more than the chicken type.

1. Ferret's name: Loki 2. Ferret's weight: 40-41 ounces (+1 ounce since beginning on 7/18) 3. Ferret has eaten "X" amount on average per meal: He eats about 2 tablespoons of the mixture with added water to it. He likes it really thin and slightly warm. If it starts getting thick/hard on the top, he tends to leave it alone. He also got his raw egg yolk this morning. 4. Stools on various proteins: Smaller and tarry-no signs of illness and he moves his bowels regularly. He doesn't seem to be in any discomfort. 5. Activity levels: Normal and very active. He loves the extra long tube I recently brought home for him. 6. Weekly menu: I finished up the basic soupie mix of chicken bits (breast, hearts, livers) and egg shell. I'm going to the store today and will be picking up some more beef products and maybe some pork to try. Thank you! I'm so happy that he is taking to it so well. He just had his morning soupie, which he was very excited about. We'll be going over to my friend's house to visit her ferret in a few hours. She really wants to get her lady on the raw diet. So I'm going to show her how to make the soupie and help her begin introducing it to her ferret. I'm interested to see what Loki does over there. He pretty much refused to touch his old kibble once he had the soupie (which sounds like a common reaction). I wonder if he will try to eat hers? I just have to remember to put a towel down when he eats because he likes to clean his face off on my carpet. If I had to add something to that thread about "What love is..." I would have have to say its the kisses I get after he eats his soupie. (raw leavings or now). It makes me so happy to know he is so happy.

So last night I tried pork with his chicken livers and hearts. He was slow to try it at first, but I encouraged several tastes and after an hour of extra play last night he was ready to sample independently. I woke up to a completely empty bowl and a very happy fuzzie. So I think that was probably 1/2 a cup of raw soupie! He will be getting more in a few minutes now that morning playtime is over.

It sounds as though he really does prefer a natural diet

Today was the first day Loki did not finish his bowl of soupie. I don't know if it was because he didn't get as much play time as he normally does, or because he's not a big fan of pork. He ate just under a 1/2 cup, leaving just over a tablespoon behind. I made him some beef soupie today for his dinner time and I took my first venture to a local Asian market. I found small fish, quail eggs, and even jellyfish. lol But what I was really excited to find was a whole duck. I took it home and am defrosting it now. I plan to break it down and make some duck for both ferret and ferrent alike. I'm hoping there might be some goodies inside that I can use as well. It's supposed to be "everything but the head." So we'll see.

So Loki got beef last night and he only ate about a 1/4 of a cup. So today I gave him less in his bowl. He had a ton of energy this morning. He was racing all over the place and was just insanely happy and excited.

1. Ferret's name: Loki 2. Ferret's weight: 45 ounces (+5 ounces since 7/19) 3. Ferret has eaten "X" amount on average per meal: I still haven't found a steady amount. Sometimes its 2-3 servings of a 1/4 cup, sometimes its 2 servings of a 1/2 cup. It all depends on the meat. He is not a fan of pork but loves turkey. And he still gets his raw egg and occasional freeze dried liver bits. 4. Stools on various proteins: He had a few loose stools, but over all its normal for the raw. 5. Activity levels: OMG he is easily twice as energetic than he already was. He brought me his favorite toy this morning from his hiding spot to play. 6. Weekly menu: I'm still trying different proteins at the moment. I tried to alternate between poultry and pork/beef. I bought some duck for an "exotic" meal and I was thinking about trying fish tonight.

Updated (I took them this morning) pictures of Loki. I didn't even notice the mess in the background. He has toys all over my apartment now. lol I forgot to add in my previous update that Loki's fur is noticeably softer.

So yesterday we hit our first real snag. I made a mixture of chicken thighs and livers (I could't find any chicken hearts, but I did locate a beef heart to add to the new beef mixture) and it did not go over at all. If he ate any, it was so little it was unnoticeable.
I woke up Friday morning to a full bowl, which I replaced with a fresh one before I went to work. When I came home (albeit late yesterday) there was another full bowl in his cage. As I stated before, he usually eats between 3/4-1 cup a day of raw mixture. Even the pork that he didn't particular like, he ate.
I took out the second chicken bowl and gave him one of the premade turkey ones before going to bed. I woke up this morning (Saturday) to an empty bowl. I got him out of his cage and put his bowl to soak in the sink. He kept going back to his cage and looking at the spot where his bowl was. So I pulled out his beef morning meal and gave it to him. He happily ate it.
His energy has been great and he seems to be doing well other than the 24 hours fasting from chicken thighs. (He did eat chicken breast meat.)

Lok1 1s a very handsome boy. He sounds l1ke he has a very good appet1te. You may f1nd that he eats a l1ttle less, when he 1s on raw, than when he 1s on k1bble. So, 1n the beg1nnng, they eat qu1te alot to get the nutr1ents, they were m1ss1ng 1n the k1bble. Then the raw 1s f1llng and nutr1t1ous and they slow down a l1ttle on the amount that they eat. As an average, a healthy male ferret w1ll eat about 4oz a day.
As for yesterday's snag, beef 1s a strong flavor. Lok1 was eat1ng dr1ed beef l1ver, but dr1ed 1s not as strong a flavor as fresh. So, that m1ght be why he d1dn't prefer the soup.
You're do1ng great! And your Lok1 sounds l1ke a real sweetheart.
A s1de note: we just spent the last week at Lake Keuka (The F1nger Lakes reg1on). 1 don't know how close that 1s to you, but what a beaut1ful part of the country. ! Love Manhattan and go as often, as 1 can, but th1s was my f1rst t1me 1n Upstate NY.
