My boy duke had an allergic reaction to something, which randomly occurs. Facial swelling a redness in his feet... He now has a very prolapsed rectum which is very red and bleeding. Im panicked and at a loss what to do. His vet that i take him too is 3 hours away... I cant let him go or he drags and chews at it, he has had slight prolapses but nothing ever like this.

Apply white sugar to the prolapse and hold him for about 10 minutes. That will help shrink it

When a store opens grab some prep H and apply the same way. For the interim eliminate all store bought chicken and pork. Odds are you will need pred temporarily to help bring the allergy under control. bitbyter - another allergy like your Wilma

I gave him benadryl and pred to stop the swelling...he calmed down for a while... Then bam... This. Ive had sugar on it now for 15 minutes.... My mom is on her way an hour away with prep h andvaseline to see what i can do. Im panicked...mi cant let him go...his face is still swollen... And him and i both are covered in sugar... If this doesnt work... I dont think i can afford a surgery. Im at a loss here. His stools have been getting better with the diarrhea issue... Been slowly making the change to raw.... Very very slowly... I tried to upload a picture... Ipad isnt having it..... Sorry fir bad grammar typing one handed.

A picture would really let us know how bad it is. As long as it isn't drying out, actually bleeding (blood flow), he isn't dragging his butt or out to far, it will probably subside on it's own (usually 1/2 hour or so). Treatment will help of course (as Sherry has suggested). As for the allergic reaction, my Wilma has the exact same thing. Try antibiotic free meat, mice, rats, etc. I have come to the conclusion that there is some drug being used in commercial meat that many ferrets are allergic to. You can read more about our journey figuring this out here: holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/11679/sigh-updated-march-19th-2014

Hey all, I ended up finding an emergency center 1.5 hours away...he needed sedated and a suture...i had him scruffed for 3 hours massagung it with prep h...and it never went back in...he WOULD NOT leave it alone..and it was becoming discolored. So needless to say...it ended up being a 30 hour day for. But he is much better and sleeping and doped up on pain meds....my laptop broke and for some reason my ipad wont ket me upload photos...stupid apple products...I tried numerous .times. Of course it now decides to do it!! Took 4 attempts.... Also..anyone ever hear/use Emeraid carnivore ? The vet I saw suggested it to me.

Yep, exactly like my Wilma. Here she was swollen so badly she could barely open her eyes. You need to find the trigger.

That's crazy... Duke just itches like a mad man until I get a 2.5mg prep in him... Benadryl does nothing. I'm switching him to raw but he's not having it.. He eat wysong archetype, the powdered non thermal raw and epigenetic archetype 2 the dry kibble form.. I switched him away from epigenetic 90....im convinced that whole debacle caused his IBD. The raw transition is going incredibly slow... But the formulas I have of the wysong are chicken based.. But its not constant enough to make me think it was that... Its been 4 times since Christmas with Christmas being the first.... The vet I go to in Philly said something is causing his immune system to drop drastically causing an allergic reaction.. But all his blood came back normal except lipase. Which is an indicator for IBD..... So who knows.... We have mystery ferrets!

For Wilma it started really intermittently and then slowly got worse. Once a month, then every two weeks or so then every week and finally it was every few days until she just shut down. Basically with her it is a food allergy that causes her immune system to attack the digestive tract (which is basically what E.E. is). After a long frustrating time I narrowed it down. All you can really do is try and find the trigger.
If you are trying to switch to raw and are currently using all chicken kibble type products I'd try another protein type like pork or beef or rabbit as chicken might be part of the problem.

Just an update, sutures came out on Sunday and he is doing well. I have taken him off chicken completely and I am now feeding the wysong archetype non-thermal in the rabbit formula..and he is loving it and his stools have formed up some and he isnt straining! I'm really hoping this works out, I'm going to slowly introduce venison as I hunt and it can be a readily available source. I'm able to hunt rabbits as well, but I am nervous about feeding wild and if that will be ok.

Wild rabbit should be ok if you freeze for two weeks first (freeze and wild game) and check the liver for tularemia.
