I think my thread has a tech curse, as my tablet freezes, losing my reply...
Take 2. Yes, I think they will eat the soup when they get hungry, they haven't been getting kibble at night, and they've been snacking on soup through out the night. The boys have proven that they'll consume everything on the dish, and even though very hesitant, Thor has eaten slivers on her own on occasion and She'll definitely eat the soup portion.
I've been wanting a feeding den setup for a while, I tried using a big box once, then loki left a surprise in there so I tossed it. I'll grab a box from work, see how it works out, then go from there.

I'm sorry. I know how frustrating that is Take 2. Yes, I think they will eat the soup when they get hungry, they haven't been getting kibble at night, and they've been snacking on soup through out the night. OK, then, no kibble tomorrow? Like I said, you can leave them a frozen cube if you're worried that they'll be hungry before you get home. I've been wanting a feeding den setup for a while, I tried using a big box once, then loki left a surprise in there so I tossed it. I'll grab a box from work, see how it works out, then go from there.
I think Thor will like a feeding den. It doesn't sound like she's trying to stash the slivers/chunks because she doesn't like them (which is what my Slinkee does - he thinks if he hides it I'll give him something he likes better (headwall)). I think she just wants to have a private place to chew. Ferrets are funny little things, aren't they?

Whatever they eat tonight, leave them that same amount plus a little extra for tomorrow.

Ok, I left them 8 ounces of food, the amount remaining when I got home was (insert dramatic pause) 1 ounce. I searched the cage, found a couple slivers of meat but nothing to suggest that anything happened with it except consumption.

WOO HOO!!!!!!!! KIBBLE-FREE BABIES!!!! I've been checking in all afternoon, not sure what time you got home. I'm excited! How are they acting.. normal or starved, lol? 7 ounces.. that's a lot, more than 2 ounces apiece! I wonder if Thor ate any of the slivers... Try to watch her tonight to see if she's still working around the meat pieces.
The next step is to start increasing the size of the slivers and adding more of them. I think to give Thor another day, just add a few more slivers of whatever size Thor is comfortable with. And reduce the amount of water you mix in, make the soup a little thicker. Over the next week or so, you're going to be changing two or three things at a time, but they'll be very very tiny changes. If they seem to balk at any step, let me know and we'll back up.
I can't remember if they like any oils?

They don't seem to acting hungry at all. I haven't given them any kind of particular oil, but they love ferretone which has oils in it. I know some people argue that it can be bad for ferrets, I am open to exploring oils if there is a more healthy and natural alternative.

Ferretone isn't the best stuff for them.. can't remember off the top of my head what it has in it, but it's not healthy. I would recommend switching to a fish oil, emu oil, or EVOO. I think Grizzly Salmon Oil is the most widely recommended brand, but I just use EVOO. The oil switch may have to be done gradually (like the food switch) but it's easier. Cut the 'tone with a little of the new oil, and every day or two add a little more of the new stuff. They won't even realize that it's changing, lol.

Another no kibble day, I left 6 ounces of food, I weighed 1.5 ounces remaining. I'll weigh them later when their running around to see where they are at.

Not terrible. How is Thor doing with the slivers? She's eating the soup fine, so it's not the taste that she doesn't like. It's probably the texture.. finicky thing, lol.
OK, so tonight if you haven't fed yet, or tomorrow night, whenever you can be home to keep an eye on them, give more slivers and just a little soup, almost like gravy on top. I want you to do it when you can watch them to make sure that they all eat something. I don't want them to go hungry all day if they won't eat it. If they eat it, great! and if they don't, give them more soup to fill up on when you go to bed.

Today was 3 ounces slivers and 3 ounces soup, I'll make sure to adjust the ratio of soup to slivers. I'm hoping that they'll cooperate with the next feeding. I especially want to see if Thor has gotten more accepting of the slivers, that's the one downside to them eating while I'm gone, I don't get to see who eats what.

Do they not eat again when you get home?

More of a desire to eat when I'm not watching it seems. They barely touch it when I'm watching, but come morning, or when I come home the food is gone.

lol, sounds like my two! Any luck with the feeding den yet? I feel like Thor is getting enough to eat whether it's just the soup part or the slivers. I'm hoping that as you increase the slivers and decrease the soup, she'll realize that she has to eat those slivers. Just keep an eye on her activity, poops, and weight.
