You dont really need to worry unless he has insulinoma. Evanna didnt eat for like a whole day because she decided she didnt like mouse. Dont make it a habit but im sure hes fine. Also h*ll learn to eat on his own soon enough. Sometimes going a little hungry is just what he needs to realize that soupie is food.

Ugh I wrote out a response yesterday, but I guess it didn't post. ._. Anyway, he'll go all day with out touching his soupie, but the minute I pull him into my lap, he suddenly realizes he's ravenous and scarfs down the food. I dunno what to make of that. Is he just being a picky baby? Should I go to the store and pick up some beef liver the moment it gets in and make him the soupie he's used to? Ugh he makes my head hurt sometimes, but I love him so!

Okay so I noticed some tartar (I think, brownish in color) on Sev's teeth. I'm wondering if I should think about booking a vet appointment soon? They are on the back two (one on either side) on his bottom jaw, and the left one looks to be a bit worse than the right one. He's been on wet food (his soupie) since June 29th and was off kibble completely by the 1st of July. Would getting him on meaty bones (in like a month or more) help with the tartar or should I look into getting his teeth cleaned and then keep his teeth clean until he's on the meaty bones and then on to a more relaxed schedule? Any thoughts or help on this would be wonderful

When I first got Evanna and I took her to her first vet appointment I had the vet take a look at her teeth, but she said the tartar is fine and should go away as she start crunching bone. I think as long as his gums look fine then theres no need to worry. Some people do brush their ferts teeth though although I don't so I cant help much there I also found it alot easier to hold Evanna while I spoon fed her. She ate SOOO much that way. SO I'd say for now just keep doing that and then slowly transition him to the floor.

I don't know why all my latest posts have not been working. It's getting annoying. Anyway, thank you both for replying so fast. The tartar is not bad just two little light colored spots of brown on his (upper back teeth, not lower. Oops.) teeth. But I'm not sure when I can begin giving him bones to crunch on as he's still wary of new things. This week I'll pick up ground chicken and mix it with his soupie. At least he's eating the bigger chunks in his soupie. Speaking of soupie, he's now eating the 'new' mix all by himself. All I usually have to do is set him down in front of the bowl and it's chow time. I have to blend up a new batch (they are already separated and measured for a soupie blend) on thursday, at least I'll have my food processor by then.

Last night I forced him to eat a (smaller than ferret kibble) bit of chicken jerky. Everyday he will get another piece until he'll happily accept them... like his soupie. I'd like to use these as his treats (and to, hopefully, help with tartar until he'll accept bone) some I can start actively training him on proper places to potty instead of just moving him to his 'toilet' when I see him in the act. Hope this works... I'll feel dumb if it doesn't.

UGH! He is such a freaking brat. So I bought him a food processor cause ew.. my smoothie blender... D: and it doesn't chop up the food as fine as he's used to and it turns it to more of a paste than a liquid goo so OF COURSE HE WON'T TOUCH IT. That stinkin' little butthead. Jesus, he makes me want to slam my face against a wall or desk... So we start back with eating the soupie off of my fingers and progress from there. PLEASE TELL ME IT'S GOING TO GET EASIER!!!!! DX

Awww its okay! This process is often 1 step forward and then 2 steps back D: Dont worry it will get easier! Just keep being patient with him maybe you could add a little bit of water to try and make the soup more "soupie"

He eats about 2.5-3 tablespoons at a meal, two to three times a day. Some days he has more interest in food than others so, yeah. However he's doing really well he'll eat this new formula with minimal coaxing and, if it has chunks in it I can get him to eat those by putting them on my finger and he'll take them and reluctantly eat them. But he knows that whatever mommy gives him is safe because he trusts me, I mean I think it's trust. No one else has tried hand feeding him, but he will follow my finger and lick it completely clean and then keep on licking it. It makes me feel happy that he loves me and trusts me as much as I love and trust him (trust him to steal my stuff that is! ) He is such a sweetie and a little love. Anyway here is his weekly update, I kind of skipped out on doing this the last two weeks since his recipes doesn't deviate much from soupie. 1. Ferret's name: Severus 2. Ferret's weight: 44.8 (Finally got a reading where he wasn't wiggling.) 3. Ferret has eaten "X" amount on average per meal: 2.5-3 tablespoons of soupie, 2-3 times daily. 4. Stools on various proteins: Ranges from normal to slightly muscosy and seedy. 5. Activity levels: Sporadic. Some days he's causing mayhem all day and others he's more inclined to relax, snuggle, do some playing, and sleep by my feet. 6. Weekly menu: Chicken soupie, chicken, chicken hearts, chicken liver, and 1 chicken gizzard in each batch. Also added chicken chunks to get him used to eating them. Soupie is more like paste in consistency than a cream soup.

So Sevvy got to try turkey yesterday, it was plain, skin on, turned to mush turkey. He was not a big fan, but he ate half of what I put in his bowl. Today I pureed a chicken liver and a couple of hearts and mixed it all together (the turkey mush and the organ puree) and he was much interested. I think the taste f those organs is comforting to him. What a weirdo. Anyway I think I'm going to start writing up real weekly meal plans, instead of him always getting chicken soupie. I know I can get fresh salmon, fresh turkey, and fresh chicken for meats for right now. I can sometimes find rabbit, but it's only sold fresh at one store that I know of and I've only ever see it for sale twice. I obviously did not have Severus at the time. I can also get whole raw cornish game hens, but I'm going to hold off on those until he's eating not mush food. My friend lives by an asian food store and he promised to take me there, so I can snag duck and maybe rabbit from them. Anyway that's five to six different proteins. Three that I can get readily by just walking to my grocery store. I still haven't been able to convince him that he needs to eat the chunks (without hand feeding I mean, he'll eat just about anything off my fingers now), so I'm going to cut the chunks a bit smaller and see if he'll eat them on his own then. We'll see. Anyone have any tips for a busy ferent on how to convince their fuzzy to eat the chunks and niblets on his own? He won't eat food with ferretone on it, he just licks that stuff off. And he licks them clean of the soupie as well, but he won't actually eat them. -Sigh- Oh and how long until there is a mentor free for me? Or like what position am I in for a mentor? Ugh, I just wish I could have one like, tomorrow, so they could hold my hand and walk me through this step by frustrating step. Anyway my ranting is over.
