Well after 2 visits to the emergency vet this weekend and just getting back from the vet. It seems Hammie is on his way to the bridge. He is not responding to the sub q fluids and is now lifeless. his regular vet was not in so another vet game him fluids, antibiotics and forced a/d food down him.
I was given a lifeless Hammie to take home, he is grunting and in obvious pain. even after 50cc of subq fluids he is still dehydrated.
Time will tell if he continues to go downhill or if he will improve.
He has not been right since the may 28th emergency vet visit. He has some kind of infection than the antibiotics can't knock out.
I think he has been dehydrated so long that he now has organ damage.

d*mn, so sorry man. I just posted on your switching thread but I'll delete it. Any indication from the vet as to what it was?

we just could not keep him hydrated. we had two visits to the ER vet this weekend to try and get him to make it to Monday to see his regular vet. His regular vet was off on Monday so we had to see some other vet, he put 50cc of fluids in him and put some A/d food in him and sent him home. about an 30 mins after being home he passed. he was so dehydrated that the vet thinks it was too late for him by the time we brought him in he was already experiencing organ failure.
In the future I will have Sub Q fluids on hand and ready if this ever happens again. I will put the ferrets on an IV drip for as long as it takes to get them hydrated. I don't think it would have helped much in this case though as for some reason the fluids were going right through him he would pee the fluids right out and be dehydrated again 4 hours later. I have no idea what would cause this. Hopefully we will have some answers after I talk to his vet tomorrow.
It is funny how I knew his time was short, I though I had more time with him, I knew it was bad, but no amount of preparing myself for the worse could keep my from balling my eyes out when I saw his lifeless body after he took his last breath.
It still amazes me how much of a hold these little guys have on your heart. It hurts so much to lose them. I have never felt such pain than the pain felt from the loss of a ferret.
I have gave all my ferrets hugs and kisses, they have gotten whatever they wanted today. I am a complete pushover right now, Mogwai was begging for a mouse at the fridge today and without giving it a 2nd thought I reached in the freezer and gave him one.

I'm so sorry. You did all you could, IMO. I agree, it's amazing how they can take over your life, the way you think, your priorities, everything. It is very painful to lose one, but here we are at 8 again after having lost so many already, because the joy they bring makes it worth it.
DIP Hammie. We'll all miss you.

I'm so sorry for you loss, words are so inadequate. You're right, the pain is so unbelievable and the void that they leave in your life a gaping hole that just cannot be filled. I will light a travelling candle for your wee one, to guide his paws onto his next great adventure. Gentle journey little one, fly high and free. ciao
