Yay Sophie!!!! (dance) that is such great news!! Oh, Annie, being such a little diva . If Annie won't eat pieces bigger than that then lets go back to that. Just add more of that size. Then after a few days do a SLOW increase of size. Just smash it enough that you see marrow. The bone pieces are OK. If they swallow a piece to large they will hack it back up. I remember feeling the same way, but they can manage the bone pieces just fine. If they don't like it they may just spit it out. Good luck with the wing, let me know what she thinks. Turkey thigh bone is likely too dense and hard for them. Even smashed I'm not sure they will/can eat it. But the marrow might be a yummy treat. With turkey the main parts a ferret can manage are the wing tips and necks.

Yeah, well another example of Mom trying to poison Annie. Did not like the marrow at all. Sophie has gained an ounce over the week, now is 1 lb 14.5oz. She's eating a mix of duck and lamb for now more duck than lamb she doesn't seem to care for lamb on its own. Haven't made the turkey soupie yet. I am going to give my daughter permission to contact you if there is a problem while I am away, hope that is OK. I think I left off the food intake report with last Monday, so here it is starting with Tues. 7/29 Annie: AM ate about 1/2 of 0.3 oz NV rabbit and very little of 0.3 oz meat pieces PM 0.1 oz Rad Cat turkey Sophie: AM 0.4 duck, 0.2 lamb, some turkey baby food mixed in PM 0.4 oz duck and lamb and baby food

THURS 7/31 both were hungry! Annie: AM 0.7 duck, PM Very little of 1.0 oz chicken soupie and 10 pieces of chicken, 0.1 oz duck Sophie AM 0.6 oz duck PM 0.6 oz duck and lamb, a little baby food added, she ate most of this
FRI 8/1 Annie: Am 0.6 oz NV rabbit PM 0.6 oz rabbit, none of the beef pieces Sophie: AM 0.5 duck PM 0.7 oz duck and lamb

I am sooo happy about Sophie! What a trooper. She is eating so well. When you get back lets try another protein. Oh little Annie - being a royal pain What a crazy girl to not like marrow! So beef with her doesn't seem to be a big hit. Stick with chicken pieces for now then. Quite a few meals she ate a decent amount. Keep increasing amount. I would say try about 20 pieces. Small pieces though. Annie has an interesting eating pattern of eat lots then very very little then lots. Since she is maintaining a good weight I'm not concerned. And yes - please have your daughter pop in with ANY questions etc. I will be more than happy to help. * Note * I am away the day of Saturday but can check in Saturday evening.

Sophie has eaten 1.1 oz tonite! She ate 0.9 oz of duck tonite, then I gave her another 0.3 oz and she started munching away. Seems a little lethargic tho tonite.
I left off with the eating report on Tues, I think.
Annie: AM 0.6 oz Rad Cat turkey, 15 pieces chicken PM 0.7 oz NV duck Sophie: AM 0.8 oz duck PM 0.7 oz duck
Wed 8/6 A: AM 1/3 egg PM 1.2 oz pork soupie, 13 pieces turkey S: AM most of one egg PM 0.9 mix NV duck and lamb soupie
I will ask my daughter (Gillian) to touch base with you, but I doubt either she or her friend will be able to check food intake. I plan to pack up food in petri dishes and freeze them, that way anything that's not eaten can just be thrown away. I will be away Mon to Fri. If I had been thinking I would have asked if I could try giving Sophie a few small pieces of turkey. But at this point I won't try anything like that till I get back.

Ahhh, back from vacation. We got back late last nite, figured I'd check in today. I got no news about my two little thieves while I was gone; altho I would have liked to hear how they were making out, I also figured no news is good news. The person who came in to feed them, my two cats and two fish apparently had so much fun watching Sophie and Annie playing that she ended up spending a few hours each day here. I had her just throw all their dishes in the freezer (with the plan I would wash them when I got home), but it also gave me an idea how they were eating. With the exception of one or two meals, they ate almost everything! I had set up meals with at least an ounce in each. I will check weights tomorrow. Tonite I made turkey soupie-the cat likes it, so far neither ferret will try it. More tomorrow

Interestingly enough, both lost weight! Sophie an oz (from 1 lb 15 oz to 1 lb 14 oz). I just checked and it looks like I haven't posted a weight on Annie for a while-been so concerned with Sophie. Last weight was 8/2 and she was 2 lb 1.5 oz. Yesterday she was 1 lb 15 oz. So she lost ~ 2.5 oz. Have begun adding small amounts of turkey soupie to both their food, along with pieces to Annie's(didn't include them while I was away) Fri nite they both ate well, Sat. they did well also, Annie ate all her pieces(20 small) in Rad Cat chicken. Sun,Annie ate ~1/2 oz at breakfast, about 0.75 oz at dinner (turkey added added to Rad Cat chicken plus pieces)I threw in a chicken wing just to see, which of course she ate around. Sophie ate ~ 3/4 oz lamb, duck turkey at breakfast and almost an oz of duck at nite(I had put down the same mix of lamb, duck and turkey at first but she spilled it so I did just duck.) I got bags of NV freeze dried raw lamb and rabbit to try, so far neither have eaten any. They really don't soften up when you put them in water, do they? I tried adding 1 or 2 pieces to Annie's food Sat., but guess where that went.... I enjoyed being away for a bit but I missed the ferrets, my cats and my horses. It was nice to come home and see my buddies!

So even though they have both lost a little weight it isn't a huge amount. Keep a closer eye on it and make sure it isn't going to continue. They both eat well so they may just be leaning up. Could you post some pics top down for me? I'm glad you started adding in another protein. And I'm really glad Sophie is doing OK with it. Now she will be eating 3 proteins! Thats good. Im glad Annie is eating her pieces. Keep working on adding more to her food. The NV lamb I have (but not the rabbit) and I soak it in a baggie and no, it doesn't soften the way the duck I buy does. But what I do is mash it with some warm water after soaking. I always mash the NV i buy since I have one diva that wants it a nice soft consistency. Lol. Try mashing it into her food, otherwise she will likely just eat around them. Keep up the good work. It was odd to have you away for a week and not hear about the girls! I checked everyday to make sure there were no questions/comments. I know I miss my fur family if I'm even gone for a weekend!

Sorry I haven't written in a bit, getting back into the swing of work, etc. Took a picture of Sophie tonite to post, but I'm not sure it will come out . Things are going OK, nothing new here. I think Sophie has lost another ounce- she was 1 lb 13 oz today. Her appetite is a bit off I think. annie doesn't help because she eats what Sophie leaves sometime. Tonite Sophie is up but Annie is still sleeping - it's 9:27 here, usually she is up and wanting out by around 7. Here's the picture, I hope.

picture did show up. She is looking OK but I don't want her to continue to lose weight. How much has she been eating over the last couple of days? You mentioned appetite being off, what makes you say that? Do the girls have access to food all day long? She has liked duck. Try her next couple meals just duck and see how she likes that. Then go back to mixing. How are the girl's energy levels? poops?

There was that time right before I went away when Sophie was eating at least an ounce per meal; now she doesn't finish what I give her, maybe eats 3/4 of it. (= 3/4 oz). I am not able to add more than 0.1-0.2 oz of either lamb or turkey to the duck because she won't eat it. Will just give her duck for a few days. Poops look good except for the day I gave them eggs.(Tues I think). Sophie's was loose and extremely smelly; but that cleared up after that one day. Energy is OK- no real change in that. Here's Annie- I hadn't noticed how discolored the fur is on her neck- may be bath time this weekend...

I feed them in the morning and they have that food in the cage until I come home and feed at nite. Same with the nite feeding. Lately I think Annie has been cleaning up Sophie's; but Sophie seemed to be eating between 1/2 and 3/4 oz at a time. Last nite she ate poorly, MAYBE 3/4 oz, and with me holding her all the time. This morning she would not eat the duck, but did eat some baby food turkey, so she is interested in some things. Last week's food report, but now with the caveat that I don't know how much Sophie really is eating. Before I was pretty sure I watched her eat all that food, and I guess her weight would confirm that. So the amounts for her are estimates based on what I see for the most part. MON 8/18 Annie: AM ~0.3 oz rabbit, PM 0.8 oz rabbit, 10 pieces turkey(out of 20) Sophie: AM: 1 egg PM ate ~ 1/2 oz duck rest gone by morning (Annie?)
TUES 8/19 Annie: AM 1 oz NV chicken, 10 pieces turkey PM 0.75 oz NVchicken, 10 pieces turkey Sophie: AM 0.75 oz duck and turkey PM: 0.5 oz duck and turkey
WED 8/20 Annie: AM 0.75 oz chicken soupie, 8-10 pieces of turkey PM 1 0z NV rabbit, 18 pieces lamb Sophie: AM 0.5 oz duck and lamb soupie, PM 0.75 ozNV duck, lamb soupie
THURS 8/21 Annie: AM 0.7 oz NV rabbit, 20 pieces chicken; PM 0.75 oz chicken soupie, 15 pieces pork Sophie AM 0.75 0z duck, lamb; PM 0.9 0z duck, 0.1 oz lamb soupie
FRI 8/22 Annie weighs 2 lbs today Annie: AM 1 0z NV duck, 15 pieces chicken; PM 0.75 oz Rad cat chicken, 18 pieces chicken, (one of which was about 1/2 inch square and I watched her eat it under the table). Sophie: AM Ate the cat's Orijen kibble instead of her duck; PM hand fed 1/2 oz duck
SAT 8/23 Annie: AM 0.5 oz rad cat chicken (appears she has lost her taste for this), 12 pieces chicken PM 1 0z NV rabbit, 2 pieces chicken (they were larger than usual, 1/3 inch square) Sophie: AM 1/2-3/4 oz duck, some baby food with it, PM maybe 3/4 oz duck and baby food (holding her)
As I say, poops all look good. Sophie is definitely less active, last nite I found her back in her cage sleeping after only a short time out. But then she was very active after I woke her up and brought her outside for a while.
I didn't pitch too much of a fit when I saw Sophie eating the kibble because I had already noticed her appetite falling off. I thought maybe a little "McDonald's" might stimulate it a bit, but I guess that didn't work. I think I am going to wake her up in a little while and see if I can't get her to eat some duck now.

I held Sophie on my lap and she ate almost an ounce of duck just now.
