Hey. Here's Lucy. She's learning how to tie some knots thanks to my son's Boy Scout leftover rope. Or, she's having fun trying. Hehe. I'm not certain how old she is. Petco employees said she was under a year; she can fit in my hand. (I'll post pics of her teeth eventually.) I don't spend much time in pet stores, but from what I've read, we don't like them. Though, the guys who talked me into getting Lucy (I was nervous about my dog trying to eat her) gave me this website and told me all about raw feeding. I was sold. Lucy was too. She's been eating steak (and loving it) since Monday, also some egg. I never bought any kibble. Yesterday, she tried chicken gizzards and some turkey wing meat. I'm planning on giving her turkey necks and bought some pork necks too. I plan on going to the meat market to find some beef heart or lung. (I'm hoping I can get them to cut it up for me ... >< ) So far, she gives me no complaints. I think it'd be awesome to see her take down a lil mouse or chick eventually, but I'm not sure if she should be a little older. She seems little to me. Anyway, hello and I'm glad to meet y'all. Here are some more pics since that one actually worked. =D Here's Marley. He wants to play, but I'm still not sure he can control himself. (This dog had caught birds!) Aside from being jealous, and more lovable because of it, he is doing pretty well when they play. I should say Lucy stays in her cage except when I, or one of the kids, can watch her. I'm new to having a snuggly, so I'm not letting her out of my sight.

Welcome to the forum! It's awesome that Lucy is eating raw so quickly. A balanced raw diet is the best for her by far. But do check out the raw feeding files and make sure her diet is BALANCED. Ferrets can't thrive on muscle meats alone. They also have to have bone, organs, and heart. And since she's young, Lucy probably won't have any trouble adjusting to any of those! Pork neck bones are really too big and dense for most ferrets to eat. Mine like to chew on them, but be careful that they don't chip a tooth. I usually let my ferts eat all the meat off and then give the bones to the dogs.

Welcome to the group. To me she looks maybe 6 months old, but it's now been over 1 1/2 years since we had babies. I can't believe our babies are almost 2. Lucy is adorable. Amazing that a pet shop sent you to this site. Good for you for joining! I'm guessing she's not a Marshall's ferret.

Like GFountain said, there is alot of good info on feeding raw and after 15 posts, you can sign up for a Mentor. They will help ensure that Lucy's menu is balanced and that you understand, how and why, the raw menu works.

Hi and welcome to both you and your wee Lucy. Please feel free to prowl around and check things out. Read threads, ask questions, get involved in discussions. Not to be a kill joy but please watch your dog more than carefully. If he's caught birds then his prey drive and coordination and killing capabilities are well tuned. I would not allow him to be anywhere near your wee baby. We've lost too many little ones here on the forum itself (meaning this happens all too often) introduced to dogs and whose owners weren't just fast enough. It happens faster than you can breathe and the heartache lasts a lifetime. A quick shake of the head and it's all over except the tears. ciao

Thank you all for the warm, fuzzy welcome. =) I'm so glad to have Lucy. I'll definitely go check out the mentor program. I'm just not certain I'll have enough time to devote to it. Good to know about the pork neck chunks. I tried cutting them up and got nowhere. Marley will be happy to have them. unclejoe thanks for the age estimate. Petco basically gave me a receipt. I was glad to have spoken to the 2 employees who guided me here. =) I'm going hunting for the teeth thread, cause I've taken some pics of Lucy's. I'm not sure if it matters if I know how old she actually is, but it'd be interesting to try and see. I just realized this is a thread for pics of us, not our lil ones, so here's a shot of me and my husband. /wave
