Taurine - Actually I'm not too sure about that. I read that it can deteriorate slightly, and assumed that by feeding (frozen) heart twice a week there would be no problem. Should I be giving taurine supplements too?
Bone - No, cooked bones can splinter and injure the ferret.
Variety - A different protein source comes from a different animal. E.g. Chicken wings, pork ribs, goat
Organs - Half liver and half other organ (e.g. kidney)
Balance - Gizzards are a muscle meat
Health - While kibble fed ferrets eat throughout the day, raw fed can have just two meals
General - Fattier meats are better, because ferrets take energy from fat

How much liver and organ are you feeding per ferret weekly? And how much heart?

They are each getting one meal of 1.5oz liver/organ, and one meal of 1.5oz heart. And one meal of liver/organ/heart which equals 1.5oz per ferret.

Surprisingly, taurine doesn't degrade by being frozen. That just goes to show you learn something all the time. Years ago, we were always told that taurine degraded if subjected to intense temperature variations, therefore if we were going to add powdered taurine to not add until the meal had fully thawed and not to add if we were going to freeze. Seemingly, it doesn't matter. :banana:Congratulations :goodjob: You've graduated and you're ready to walk this path alone, now . You have the foundation to help you feed your fuzzes in a more natural and healthy manner. Please remember that your learning never stops, and dietary needs change from ferret to ferret and throughout each their lives. I would like you to be aware that though you now have the capability and the knowledge to create your little ones diets you are never alone and that your mentor (you need only pm) is always available to you. The list is also a very good resource and you should always be aware that it's available to answer any questions you may have either about diet or care. Good luck, in a few days either Sherry will lock down this thread and place it in the archives but be aware that you can always look through it as a reference tool but you just will not be able to post to it. Your mentor will be in to congratulate you shortly ciao
