Artie has smelled something that has made him start sneezing rapidly and almost continuously. We just moved to a new place so I think its a chemical in the carpet. He/we started to panic, so I've put him in the cage (ferretnation-above the carpeting) and am running a little fan into it for increased airflow. He has found the hammie directly under it and has curled up and the sneezing has abated. Is there anything else you recommend? Oh and some nerfherder stole my ferret first aid bag in the move so my resources are limited at this point. I'll copy this to the thread.
There aren't any vets available at this hour, the best I could think to do is brew some calendula tea and maybe he'll drink it with EVOO. Or is that just a panic inspired stupid idea. All my fert med stuff is gone. The good part is he's breathing/sniffing in his hammy now, so that's comforting.
Any ideas?

I'd keep an eye on him but I don't think you should necessarily worry. My Tak has violent sneezing fits like this regularly. The first time it happened it scared both him and me to death and off to the vet we went. There was nothing we could find that was wrong and so we can only assume he has bad allergies. Tak usually has at least one of these fits every day or so and is usually after he has stuck his nose into/under/around something. The sneezes are so long and violent that I run and hold him up and even away from me so he doesn't bang his head so hard. It is very taxing for him afterwards as well.

Unless he cannot stop, or shows other symptoms (vomiting, bleeding, lethargy, etc) I wouldn't be too concerned. You might just run a carpet cleaner with a gentle carpet soap through the room before letting him back out. You can usually rent a steam vac for not too much - they run about $30-40 for 24 hours here.

I think I've found the culprit. I used a spray carpet cleaner to clean up a mess and I think he got a snoot full. I've since vacumed and covered it and there've been no more sneezing fits.
