It should make a difference. Though I will admit mine have never minded taking pediapred(prednisolone). Have never used prednisone. Something you can try is pulling up a bit of their favourite oil, pred, then finish with more oil. Just .1 usually helps a LOT.

That didn't really seem to help. I'm trying to hold off another week so that I can get the chicken flavored one at the same time as doing his next BG check but I don't know if I want to wait that long.

I've yet to see him eat raw in his cage. He does really well with the spoon and if I guide him to the plate outside the cage, but other than that, zip.

In that case(eating) start with the dish INSIDE the cage. Do exactly what you would normally do, but do it with everything in there. Keep the doors open and make sure he doesn't hump obviously This method often helps to transition to eating there.

Okay, from now on all feeding will happen in the cage. I think his coat looks better already.

Something that helped my Ponce, when he was on Pred., we would take the syringe for the med, and dip it into something that he liked, in his case, it was a little duk soup. We would syringe up a tiny amount and then carefully syringe up the Pred. That way, his first taste was of the duk soup and then he would get the rest of the Med. Also, immediately after the Med. we had another syringe ready with water. He gagged less, that way and was alot less reluctant to have his Pred.

The only thing I have around that he really likes is ferretone, and when I tried that like Sherry suggested above it didn't seem to work for him. When he was on clavamox, prior to the insulinoma diagnosis, it worked to do it with baby food. But the only baby food around here has corn starch in it, which I want to avoid. I do try to give him some ferretone right after the med to help get the taste out of his mouth, and it seems to help him calm down faster. I might give him little bits of ferretone through the syringe throughout the day so he doesn't start to stress out at the sight of a syringe.

I wouldn't hold back the Pred. waiting for the compounded flavor to come in. You could try boiling a piece of chicken and make a chicken soup. Nothing else added. If you use a chicken thigh, it will have some fat in it and that's pretty tasty. Then use the soup for an added flavor, dip the syringe in, like I mentioned and try that.

I didn't mean not giving the pred, I meant 'holding out' as in trying to make it until his next vet appointment, which should be next Monday. Sorry for the miscommunication!

Kicking myself today because I realized that getting skinless chicken breasts for soup a) isn't nearly enough fat content and b) may be why Remus doesn't seem very interested. DUH. I'm gonna make the new stuff with chicken thighs first thing in the morning and do a 50/50 mix with the old soup.

When I was starting out in the soup stage. I brought all my chicken thighs, livers, and hearts to the butcher and asked him to grind it all for me. It helped me out because I would get 2 pounds a week. All I had to do was measure it out and add eggshells.

Good idea with mixing 50/50 with the old soup. The first chunks our Ezra chewed on his own were chicken thigh skins. It's dreadful to pull everything off of the bone, but worth it once you have a good batch.

Bit of a breakthrough today! I took his old soup out to replace it with new, and when I came back he was waiting on the level of his cage that has food/water bowls. He only ate a tiny bit out of the bowl and then I spoonfed him, but still--that's the first time I've seen him eat raw from the bowl without being coaxed. Yay!

We just got to that point with Ezra a couple of days ago. It's impossible to describe how relieving it is.

Came home to an empty bowl today and when I came back to my room after feeding the fish he was eating out of the bowl. (dance)
