When we first got our ferrets they seemed to adore sneaking into the couch. They had tore a hole in the bottom. But when I took the legs off the couch they decided they would set to the bed. So what I did. Was I measured out the length of the box spring and had my local hardware store cut a piece of plywood to those exact dimensions then I drilled some holes and bolted it to the bed frame. The box spring rests on that. Preventing the little sweethearts from getting into the springs and hurting themselves. If it helps plywood is fairly cheap too so.

Mine put about 8 holes into the under bed fabric and they just use it to sleep in an occasionally put something up there
