Hmm okay Alyse told me this would be a better way to keep track of Evanna's switch so I think that I'll go for it! Evanna is going to the vet next week so I'll probably learn more about her age, health issues, and a more accurate weight then. For now I think she's about 2 or 3 years old, 1.25 lb, and she's been kibble fed her whole life. On her first night with me I made her some soupie and she surprisingly took right to it. Every batch of soup I make now is a little thicker and has a few more small chunks. Evanna was fine with chicken meat (and small heart pieces, but those are harder for her to chew) and thymus chunks, but the liver she wouldnt put in her mouth so I'll probably have to mush that up a little more. I'm really suprised at how well she's chewing chunks! She does tend to try and stash bigger pieces under my bed, but if I grab her before she reaches my bed she'll chew and swallow right there. Yesterday I finally started weighing how much she ate and because I have a hard time getting her to focus on food I feed her three times a day. Hopefully by the end of summer I can get her to two meals a day! Feedings: AM-.8 oz noon-1 oz PM- .5 oz When should I start trying to incorporate bone? After she's eating sizable chunks? Thanks guys

She is doing REALLY well! You want her chewing larger chunks so she builds up jaw strength before tackling bones

thanks! her soupie is more of a paste now and she chewed up some big pieces this AM. I found that long strips are easier for her to munch on. I ran out of chicken meat after this last soup batch so I was wondering if its okay to switch up proteins? I was thinking of getting some pork from the store tonight.

I hope so! I am getting a little frustrated because she wont eat a whole lot. I have to hold her and spoon feed her or shes super disinterested. She'll graze if I leave the soft soupie out, but not with the pasty chunky soup.

She's getting used to a new home, new family, new food, and it has only been a few days. Give her some time and keep working at it...did she get that tooth looked at? If it is bothering her, she might be less inclined to eat right now too. You are doing great...I know it is hard when you only want what is best for them and they don't progress as quickly as you would like. I've been working on the switch for 6 months so far. Hang in there.

No she's going to the vet next week! And she's missing a tooth (canine), but she has what looks like tarter buildup and lots of yellowing. Im not sure if any of them are rotten or something.

If it doesn't disturb you, you could also put a cardbox under your bed, so she has a stashing den. I put a plastic plate in my dens, so the meat doesn't soak the cardbox. it is easy to pull out under furniture and the plate is easy to clean, I rotate and put them in the dishwasher Sent from my SM-G900F using proboards

does it smell or attract bugs if you let them stash?

It should not, basically it is just to give the ferrets the impression they could build up a stash, for some it is natural behavior to transport their food... and then eat in a more private setting. I check the stash spots every day or every second day (depending on the food they got), I clean everything out except perfectly cleaned bones, they don't smell, so they are allowed to keep them a little longer Sent from my SM-G900F using proboards

I decided to try and cut out lunch time and I managed to stuff exactly two oz total into her. Is it bad if she eats less than two oz? And she has an appointment for 4:45 on Thursday 5/16/14 AM- .75 oz PM- 1.25 oz
