I live in Virginia so I haven't seen/don't know much about the ferrets that I am about to tell you all about. If no one on here is interested I will try to find a rescue (the 'rescue situation' they are in right now does not sound healthy) in the area they are in but if you are interested, please PM me and I will get you contact info.
A girl in my apartment building was telling me about three ferrets looking for a home in Waterberry Conneticut. All I can tell you is what I was told/heard when she called him. The ferrets' history is not really well known, a woman brought them into an animal shelter (not ferret specific) in Waterberry Conneticut stating that she'd gotten them from a friend for her kids but it wasnt working out. Two of the 3 employees didnt know anything about ferrets and the third had 2 ferrets so he decided to bring them home and foster them, this guy is the friend of the girl who told me about them.
While she was on the phone with him asking to send pics, she also asked him if all 5 (his 2 pets + 3 fosters) still get stuck behind/under the STOVE and what exactally was the name of the 'pellets' he fed them, which she said that he "he couldn't remember and had the pellets in a platic container so no box to read." He said that all three fosters were boys, I looked at the pictures and one of them is pretty tiny and just LOOKS female to me.. size and facial features, that one is a tiny sable. I asked her how he had come up with that one being male she said she didnt know, i asked if he'd felt her for a pee pee or if hed checked to see if her pee and poo are in the same spot or if the pee lands a little higher up, she didnt know and was amazed that after being fixed, a ferret still had a pee pee. I pray that this guy is at least a little more knowlegable, also the pic quality wasnt that amazing but the salbles coat looked in bad shape, MAYBE thining out- it was hard to tell. The other two look silver/roan, one kinda has the Waardenberg-y look, far spaced eyes sorta 'droopy'. Their coat condition isnt at its best but its not as bad as the sable.
The foster guy couldnt really say how long hed had them, seems like a while and they have yet to recieve any medical attention, even a checkup - which to me sounds nuts considering the fact that no one knows even a guestimate of how old they are (I've requested a close up of teeth asap but so far nothing). They get very little play time to my understaning, they spend most of their time in a cage, the girl who is friends with the foster said she'd forward the pictures she showed me to my email, I will post them as soon as I get them.. if I don't get them by the next time I see her, Ill ask her again. If you are really interested and want me to have her send you the pics aswell, PM me a good email address.
I have half a mind to go up there and get them myself but I dont think I can between work and all the stuff that we have going on at a personal level atm. Plus my fiancee said we cant get anymore.. I could probably talk him into it but we just have too much personally plus my job doesnt let me off enough. So hopefully we can find them a good home, thanks everyone!
EDIT- Ok I was searching pet finder for the name of the shelter I will refer the foster to if I cant find anyone on here willing to adopt. They are listed on petfinder and I guess it was her phone that was poor qualiy and not the pics, they a look little better on here- the sable definately doesnt have thinning fur, and looking at the pic now im not so sure I was right with my first call saying that the sable looked like it could be female, the face definately looked pointer on the girls phone but I still think s/he looks tiny for a 4-5 yr old male. Thats a good sign and according to pet finder they are between 4-5 yrs. However, it also says on here that they were schedualed to see a vet 3/27/11 and when the girl in my building had the phone convo with the foster on 4/23/11 she had him on speaker and he definately said that no, they havent been to a vet.
