That's awful =[ I'm the kind of the person that would make her husband march in there and buy them, due to me not being able to look the guy in the face without punching him! Then I would go to the public news station, they are always itching for a good story!

Everyone, hold off on making this sort of thing public, please! You don't want to damage someone's business due to a sick sense of humour.

I don't mind getting a local ferret rescue involved but I would really like to wait before I go slandering someone's name with this sort of accusation. I love the concern, but I am currently still waiting for a definitive answer in private. ( Ie Email) I haven't had the question answered directly yet, and this leads me to suspect it might be right, and apparently I was not the only person to receive this "humorous" reply. But until I have proof, I don't want to contact anyone who might make this a huge public affair.
I was just concerned about what I should do personally if this is in fact the case. I am not 100% sure if I can take care of another pair of ferrets. If that was the case, I would march in and take them myself. If it does turn out to be true, I promise to try and contact everyone I can to avoid this place.

Wow, just wow.
Please keep this thread updated guys, I am very interested to hear this guys response. I truly hope it was just a terrible joke but with the way so many animals are treated these days..
Just please let us know his response.
Surely he cannot do that? Ferrets are not rodents, they are not food, can't this be considered abuse? Call the police maybe?
Maybe make an ad on craigslist, try and get someone in there to adopt them?

Unfortunately, they are also prey animals, as well as predators. So the law's hands are tied. I know someone on the FML broke up a "party", where some ferrets who'd been given away to the wrong people on CL were going to be fed to a snake in front of some onlookers. Police were called, but they couldn't do anything. She was finally able to buy these babies, and foster them to a new home.

I wish it were illegal here in the US to feed live prey animals like it is in other countries. Too many people turn it into a cruel 'sport'.
Granted, a gator would bring a quicker death than a snake would. That's some expensive 'prey' though!

Not if someone else bought them. Think about the number of baby ferrets that find themselves in rescue. I know for a fact (work extensively with 3 pet stores) that people think nothing of dumping off pets (baby ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs etc.) at just any petstore that will take them. I've been in stores when people do this. That's how I got my first ferret. The lady walked in with this adorable little silver fuzz, dropped her along with a towel and a bottle of shampoo, said she's your problem now and walked out. The lady who was behind the counter didn't know what to do (this was a pet food store, not a pet store). No, these two little ones could have just been dumped, hence they become either gator food or snake food ciao

Which is why we always push to ask for a price from anyone giving their pets away via CL or kijiji, or any of those. Not everyone who takes a free pet is doing it for the love of the animal

I got a reply on their Facebook Wall asking for me to email them in private.
"Who made that libelous allegation? It is 100% false. Please email me privately with the name of the person who is trying to defame us. bryan@alligatoralley.com"
My reply:
First of all, I am not a customer of yours as I reside in Alabama. I am a member of an online ferret community and own three of my own. A member of this forum visited your establishment and noticed the ferret kits you have and asked a store clerk what happened when the kits became too old to be sold. The clerk said that they would be fed to your gator. I don't know if this was merely a joke on your clerk's part but I sincerely hope this is the case. Ferrets, though small, are not a natural part of an alligator's diet and they surely deserve a loving home, even if they were to reach adulthood and were no longer able to be sold.
I did not mean to sound accusing but merely wanted to remind the store owner and the workers there that there are rescue agencies and individuals willing to work with you and give them a happy life. I myself have a pet store 'rescue' who was simply too old and unable to 'compete' with the younger babies. I apologize for any confusion regarding this issue and hope for a speedy reply.
