It is why one day, when I am the position to be able to do so, along with better knowledge, it is my goal to open a ferret rescue. There isn't one in my entire state. If you ant a ferret the only method is to buy from a pet store. When I got Nax, I had my heart set on getting a rescue. Unfortunately, I would have had to travel to Canada, Idaho or Washington. I searched Craigslist for weeks and apparently our local animal shelter ships them all to Idaho. The need for a local rescue is great. The question does come up, did we do the right thing by getting ours from a pet store In many regards, it isn't much different from getting a rescue ferret, because you really are recusing them from a bad situation and you don't know what kind of situation they will end up in. My husband and I have discussed this in great deal.and talking about the pros and cons of getter a ferret from a private breeder. Especially since my husband fell head over heals with Heathers little ones. and just seeing the difference in how much healthier they were, how their eyes were brighter and being close to the same age as Gilly, and much larger.

My very first ferret was from a shady pet store and he was only 4 weeks old, the vet I brought him to got the place shut down. Some people are scumbags. One of our petco' s often has older ferret for adoption through one of the cat rescues that go in there and if they have older ones, they won't ask Marshall's for any because they know most people will pick the babies. It's the only petco I've been in that does that.

Wow, I'm a first time ferret owner, and I guess I shouldn't have been surprised I wasn't the only one. I got my baby march 14th of this year. I got him from a Petco here in Oklahoma and he was the only one in the glass area. I was told he was 4 months old and had been there a "few weeks"... His marshalls papers say otherwise. He was supposedly born from 1/24/16 to 1/30/16. So let's say he was born the 30th of January. I got him 3/14/16.. That would make taz 6 weeks and 2 days old from the day i got him. So him being there a few weeks.. I mean how old was this guy a month when they got him?? I was shocked. My husband and I went back the next day to make sure we had the right papers and they swore up and down they were correct . ironically they had 2 more ferrets in the glass area and my goodness.... They were tinier then taz. I feel horrible for these guys , there is no way they should be away from mama that small... But I guess I'm just supporting it by buying taz, but I love him so much!!!! He's also grown significantly in this small amount of time I've had him.

It's such a difficult quandary, to buy or not. If I buy one, they just replace it with another. Is there really a possible way to change this system. I honestly don't think we can stop it. Many have tried to get the farms to ship older kits but every time the farms comply for a short time and then the ages of the kits get younger. They don't want the responsibility and added costs that are needed to feed the voracious kits. I can answer the one question....at what age to they take the little ones away from their mothers. This is a video of my little ones. In this video their eyes have just opened, they're 4 weeks of age. This is the age that the little ones are removed from their mother, desexed and mutilated dumped into boxes and shipped to wholesalers. Once there, they're then bid on in lots, where they're once again split into smaller lots and shipped to distributors/suppliers who then sell them by order (by sex, colour) from the various pet stores. This video is of kits who are just 4 weeks of age. This video is of those same kits taken at 6/7 weeks. Note the difference in structure and confidence This video is of kits who are 12 weeks old, which is the age that I release my little ones to go to their new home ciao

I find this so devastating ... to be split from Mum, littermates and everything they know .... shipped so many miles. It's a wonder any Marshalls ferret ever recovers and becomes a well-balanced pet
