Hi everyone,
My little guy Booboo has IBD and he is in a flareup. We have been giving him the usual metronidazxole, amoxocillin and carafate combination and that cleared up the diarrhoea, but now his poos are grainy and not very well formed.
He is permanently on prednizolone. He is on a diet of Feline Natural (raw reconstituted diet) and Ziwipeak lamb. I am in a country where ferrets are rare and hardly any other suitable foods are available. We don't have pepto or pepcid here.
I am not sure what to do now. He seems like himself, but the poos should be back to normal by now.
Does anyone have any advice? I am very concerned for him.

I have just been to the vet and we are adding some Ranitidine into the mix and increasing the carafate. I am also going to restart him on enzymes (Bromelin). Hopefully that will help ...

Good luck. Both Sherry and Katt have had or have IBD ferrets that required meds and diet adaptations to bring their little ones' symptoms under control. Hopefully, they will post tomorrow and offer you some insight. I know that sometimes diet sensitivities (not allergies) come into play and prevent a ferret from properly recovering from an IBD attack. Is it possible that this may be the case?

To start with you are likely going to have to get him off anything to do with chicken. That appears to be fairly consistent with IBD ferrets.

Long periods on antibiotics can reduce the number of beneficial bacteria in the gut. Try some probiotics. Even a little plain yogurt can help.

Plain full fat Balkan yogurt, a tsp, will help repopulate the good gut bacteria.
