we got a new kitten a little over a year ago. We raised him with a business of 14 ferrets. they get along great. when things get too intense, he just heads for the high ground. For the ferrets part things can never be too intense - they giver give up; never surrender.

I wonder if part of the problems we have are the fact all the cats are older. The only one who semi gets along is going on 7 years old. The others are all 11 and up. I think that's most of it, Sherry. Hecate (who is now 14) was around 2 when I got my first breeding ferrets and she played with them quite a bit until they got rough with her. By the time she was 7-8, she'd bat at them while sitting on a chair but wouldn't get down on the floor to play any longer. She absolutely hated my two F1 hybrids as they could get anywhere she could and were extremely fast and agile, plus determined to catch her. The 2005 hybrid kits were much more prey oriented from about 8-9 weeks on than my previous ferret kits, so latched on to her any chance they got She stopped playing with them altogether from then on. The other cat I had when I first started rehabbing ferrets in 1996 for a local pet shop who took them in on consignment was 11 at the time,,,and he totally ignored them. They were all early neuters, most were 3-4 month old kits, and none of them ever showed much interest in him, either. Panther actively disliked my first breeding ferrets, which I got a couple years later, and their resulting kits as they pounced on him at every opportunity and were much too rough for his liking. He stayed in my bedroom most of the day, when the ferrets were out, as they weren't allowed in there.

Like Heather, one of my ferrets sustained injuries from my demon-kitty ie Vita likes to attack Jack's face with claws out. I've had TWO emergency trips for this purpose. The first time Jack lost his inner eyelid (apparently ferrets have TWO sets of eyelids) and the second time she actually punctured the retina which has resulted in a permanent cataract The crazy thing is that for the first two months I had Jack, Vita actually liked him and then she just did a 180 and hated him
